If you’re looking for a seriously strong lineup of St. Louis blues and jazz music and can’t wait for the Big Muddy Blues Festival, check out the 2nd Annual St. Louis State of Mind: A Benefit for Independence Center, 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at BB’s Jazz, Blues & Soups.

R&B singer Nikko Smith and his band will perform along with Kim Massie, Mae Wheeler, Tony Simmons, Bottoms Up Blues Gang, Marcia Evans, Cryin’ Shame, U. V. Hayes, SilverCloud, Ron Edwards, Jimmy Hinds, Gus Thornton, and Eric McSpadden.

And these names are just for starters. There’s also Keith Robinson, Mary Dyson with Curt Landis & Vince Martin, Soul Addiction, Marcel Strong, Double J & the Soul Band, Generation Gap Band with Roland Johnson, and Marquise Knox with Darrein Safron and Alonzo Townsend.

Bernie Hayes and Tom “Papa” Ray will keep the party moving as hosts.

Donations of $15 will be taken at the door, and there will be a silent auction of St. Louis sports memorabilia, and a raffle.

Independence Center helps adults with mental illnesses live with dignity.
