I must have missed it in the news. Can anyone tell me when the “white Expo” is?

I am also wondering about the white police union since the african american police union is watching the selection of a new police chief?

This is the kind of thing that causes separation. My family came to this country from Italy and worked like dogs in the coal mines for peanuts and I thank God that they did because my life is so much better because of their trials and tribulation. I agree slavery was horrible but it is over and there are no slaves or slave owners alive anymore.

Here is ANOTHER shining example of a caucasian person who just doesn’t get it. The Black expo is supposed to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of African-Americans who DON’T get recognized everyday.
Also, just because it is called “BLACK EXPO”, doesn’t mean anyone else is not invited. The black expo is for EVERYONE, not just black people!!!!!!!
That just goes to show you how limited your thinking is Bill.
So does this mean since your family is from Italy, no one else can go to the hill because it is Italian????? When it is put in this perspective, do you see how stupid you sound?????
One more thing, since whites are STILL the majority in this country, there is an “EXPO” for them everyday. Just watch television, read the paper, magazines, etc. and you will see why your argument doesn’t hold water.

Bill,
What type of separation are you speaking of? The Black Expo is an event that is something like an enormous garage sale. Vendors sell their wares and booths have information about different entities. If you want a “White Expo” then all you have to do is get people together, pay for use of the facilty and booth space, bring celebrities and musicians in, and have at it. What has this to do with slavery and slave owners. If something as productive as an expo can lead you to feel this way, I wouldn’t want to see you go over the edge.
My parents worked 2 and 3 jobs just to get us by, and make us become something, so everyone can sing that song you are trying to put out. Whatever type of “Expo” you care to visit, I hope you get the understanding that some of us African-American people are instilled to do the right thing, and live the right way. (regardless of what you think of us as a whole)

I just want to know why the Expo–black, white or otherwise-would book and bring a train-load of tired, boring and totally irrelevant acts. As a black, I am just offended by the current lineup.

Nikko Smith, seriously? Does anyone else agree with me on him, hasn’t that fame train departed the station already, with Carrie Underwood at the wheel?

Bernadette Stanis and Ralph Carter–I think they should just leave our memories of Good Times to be refreshed on TBS or BET or on whatever stations it airs.

Vivian Green–she was hot about three years ago and has not rekindled a spark since (though her picture here surely is hot!)

Eddie Levert–bless his and his wife’s soul on the passing of their two sons.

Lyah Beth LeFlore–I know she must miss her friend, Geral Levert, dearly but isn’t it time to deboard that train ride. Should you really be cashing in on his death–still? We have already either read the book or heard you on local and syndicated black radio.

ZAPP–when were they last hot, scratch that-when were they ever hot?

Will Downing–(interest of space–see ZAPP).

Joe Torry–excuse me while I yawn.

Ozzie Smith–seriously Ozzie, you lost me when you started doing commercials for some product/service/legal service that I don’t even recall–I just know that you sold out then! You were the MAN!

Finally, Spinderalla–Pepa was right, you were just the DJ–you rode that train long enough.

Black Expo Organizers: Bring a new train-load of current and relevant talent. Save your money until you can do that, thanks!

You feel me? I am sorry but I am not feeling you on this one. The Expo may not have booked top acts but where can you go and here a top act perform for free, $8.00 after 1pm? To book top acts would require them to raise the cost of admission and that would most likely cause a drop in attendance. I am one of those in the over 40 club and I can’t wait to hear Zapp. Nikko has a CD coming out soon so I am excited to show him some love and hear his new music. So You feel me come on down to the expo enjoy some good music for pretty cheap, oh yeah free before 1pm. (smile)

Oh I almost forgot, the Black Expo is sponsoring a Praise Dance Exhibition on Sunday so for those people not interested in the national acts you can pull up a seat and get your praise on with dancers from St. Louis area churches.

Misty,

You go on down and have your good time. I still ain’t feelin’ it. I understand the challenges Tom Bailey and the good folks over at Black Expo have in balancing their budget with the budgets of the public but in the end, I still would rather better (fewer) acts instead of more (poorer) acts. That’s all I’m saying. ZAPP…definitely were good with COMPUTER LOVE but that was before the murder-suicide of key members, Roger and Larry Troutman. I still am not excited about a reformulated ZAPP or any of the other old and tired or reformulated acts.

PS. Misty, be proud of being in the over 40 club, but don’t let them just give you tired and regurgitated crap! You deserve better–at least that could have served up Cameo or Morris Day. I am proud to be in the over 30 club and was insulted by New Edition’s reunion and Boys to Men’s recent performance. Sometimes, it’s ok for those of us over 30 and 40 to just remember when it was good and not be reminded of why some of our favorites just didn’t stand the test of time. Time is not always good to us and so often these acts remind us of that. They sound and look horrible and just aren’t the same—so too it goes for some of us. But the difference is, I don’t want to pay $8 or a single cent for a horribly late show. Boys to Men was free and still not worth it!

Brian - I have to ask you. If the Black Expo and events of the like are what “causes separation,” please, tell me what causes “separation” before events like these came to be?

I would really like to know (don’t think I could ever understand) how you can blame the existence of racism and discrimination (admittedly, you didn’t use those terms, but others have and there is a reasonable interpretation of your words) on “black events,” as if, before BET and Black Colleges, everything was fine. Seriously?
