Metallica will gripe and complain about you ripping off their music for free but no complaint when they rip you off for their concert tickets. Saw them at their Black album tour which was excellent but will absolutely not be going to this one.
These guys are not shocking, hard , poignant, or even entertaining anymore. So Hatfield found God, sobriety, takes his baby daughter to ballet, and dresses like a chick for his wife? Yawn!
Great! - All the best! - You are all happy, rich and responsible now and your music is boring. I want angst, anger, fire, deth and destruction. Why don’t you and the music industry count your shillings and keep ripping off the youth of america.
To all of the kids out there - If you want metal - turn to the north atlantic black metel and death metel scene. They will melt your face off, not sing bedtime songs to put your crack baby to sleep.
Though I’m not overwhelmed with the new material yet, I might have to go to this show. In 20 years of being a fan of the band, I have yet to see them.
Rob, you an economics major? Do you have any idea how much it takes to run a show? Glad you aren’t going.
Andy, above goes twice for you. Black is your favorite? How would I have ever guessed. If I go to your place of employment and steal your burgers off of the grill so you couldn’t get paid that wouldn’t bother you? Oh wait, let me guess…they have enough money already, right?
Alchololica, #1 if you don’t care for them why use “Alchololica”. Remember who coined that name? Also, shame on the guys for growing up and actually being happy. What the heck are they thinking. At least it is a place they can visit and not live there. I mean have you ever really read the lyrics? By the way spellcheck is free on this site.
T-$ You will not be disappointed if you go. More importantly if you have been to other metal concerts that you can compare apples to apples. Been a fan since Kill and can remember buying Ride when it came out. Wasn’t real impressed with Anger but they 3 songs I have heard on this album I really don’t think we will be disappointed.
C’mon Chuck. What are you the bands personal media relations. Do you know how much it costs to run a gig? I’m guessing not. They charge that much nowadays because they believe they rate that much. Sames as Eagles, Stones and all the other big name bands. There’s nothing extravagant about they’re sets… Don’t get me wrong. I love Metallica. Have since 1987. I’ve seen them 4 times now going to the Justice tour. Tell me they haven’t changed since the Black album? Maybe that sound was called for then at that particular time but since then it’s been the same weak crap. From St.Anger on something is missing with them. They claimed they were getting back to the ole days on this one. I’ve heard two of them and I’m not feelin it. Chuck your a wannabe and your one of those dudes that the band could run out a song with middle school recorders and you say “it’s the best thing they’ve done”….defend em to the end that’s your right. Mine.. they’ve slipped… and should have a Cliff Burton revival tour and play nothing but old school… That’s when they were on top..
Rob, am I their media relations manager?….I wish…be more fun that what I do now. I know that I am not gonna change your mind and vice versa but allow me to retort. Basically you say they are charging what they feel they are worth, right? Well you are seeing three bands that night. Who are paying all those roadies to change sets, sound guys e.t.c.? Tell me this…You take your woman out, get some food and drinks e.t.c. What are you gonna drop? Just think your whine about $60 compared to what any other entertainment value is is unjustified. Other than your mad they aren’t still Justice band prior. Please do tell about their sets not being extravagant. If they had stuff say like GWAR or anything else you would just poke fun at that. Also in NO way did I mean to say they havent changed since Black. They have changed from every album. Maybe you were not around to remember the fuss over Fade when Ride came out. My point is yes, they have changed and I feel I am lucky enough to grow in the same time frame they have. They are older now, Dads, sober, whatever. So have I. It is called relating to what peers have gone through. Does James call me and ask for advice? No, but a lot is related through the music. Finally, me a “wannabe”…well…maybe but I am not the guy who thinks that they should still be 20 years old having a “Cliff Burton” reunion. Do you honestly think Rob could pull off Anesthesia? He is great but I dont think he wants that kinda pressure. Say your job is a burger flipper, after 5-10 years you wanna do something different. Are you “slippin”? So I say you are a bigger wannabe than I. If you care to indulge, what are some of the bands you enjoy that havent “slipped” I would honestly like to know? Chuck
Chuck, I understand what your talking about. And you have your opinion. No, I’m not talking about GWAR sets (that’s funny, GWAR) and I understand the concept of the sound, lighting, roadies, techs, drivers etc etc.. It’s just the $55-$75 range before you add in ticketmasters handling charge, convienent charge, building fee charge it’s not worth the money. And yes, I was around and remember when “fade” was mocked by the so-called metal heads that thought they were selling out. But, after a very short period of time people loved it. Me, personally, I cannot get with anything from St.Anger, Load,Reload, etc.. Understandable people change, hell I’m not the 15yr old kid anymore either but I just don’t get this new sound. Check out the fan boards on Metallica’s website. There are many people out there that don’t get it either. Kirk said they were going back to ole school on this album. So far I’ve heard 3 songs off of it and to ME nothing’s changed since. Maybe the downhill was after Newsted left, I don’t know. All bands change, I’ll give you that. But, some find a way to keep the same sound or something similiar to keep you with it… Bands I think do this are TOOL, AIC (I know Staleys dead but after what 5 albums before hand were still at it) Foo Fighters etc… I’ll give you this Chuck, your a diehard with them and it’s good that you’ll follow them regardless of what they put out. Me, I’d rather grab, Garage Days, MOP, RTL and listen to them again.
My brother is still trying to talk me into getting tickets. If I’m roped in, I’ll look for you with your gear on and METALLICA #1 foam finger and you can buy me a beer…hahahah
Just read a good review that has peaked some interest. Especially since I agree with him on the direction they were going and the current songs they’ve pre-released. Somewhat long but worth it.

Rob, foam #1 fan finger?! Hafta admit that is funny and you know what, at least you have a intelligent answer even though we disagree. I would buy you a $9 beer.
I did read the article. I do agree (like you) with some things. #1 and foremost and we all agree is that Anger was not what all it was the anticipation led it to be. I think you are correct it was either Kirk or Lars that said it was MOP heavy. We all know that not to be true. I still think there are a couple great songs on there. If I were to guess I just think that James and I guess the band themselves were really not ready to make a another album yet. Not sure if there were pressures to do it or not.
My main reason for my reply tonight is that I am wondering if you heard The Point\’s broadcast and more of their songs they played? I just cant believe that people are saying that this album isnt heavy. One person on the webcast said it great. It sounds like Justice with bass. The real treat for me was to hear that they all sound happy and like I mentioned before I hope that the \”dark\” lyrics that surround metal are a place they can just visit and not live there. That is how I relate.
Well this is probably my last post since I think we have proven our points to each other. You wanna beer? I got my tickets tonight, 117 row G. Just roll over there call out. I will buy ya one.

Kevin C. Johnson has covered the St. Louis' music and nightlife scene for the past decade.
They’ve slipped so much over the last two to three albums. Just not the same band anymore. And to pay $60+ dollars now with all the extra charges on top just isn’t worth it.
