Halle’s ex Benet keeps them screaming at Starlight Room
Singer Eric Benet headlined Majic 104.9 ’s 30th anniversary bash Saturday night at the Starlight Room in Baden, and had no problem stirring up the largely female crowd at the understated affair.
Whether Benet’s short-and-sweet set focused on hits such as “Femininity” (recorded in St. Louis) and “I Wanna Be Loved” or new songs such as “You’re the Only One” and “The Hunger” from his “Love & Life” CD, he had them squirming in their seats.
That was especially true of “Chocolate Legs,” another of his new songs.
During “Georgy Porgy,” Benet drew attention to the lyric about being an addict for one’s love, a not-so-slick nod to reported issues he had with then-wife Halle Berry.
His “Love & Life” hits stores Tuesday.
Noel Gourdin opened with songs from his “After My Time” CD including “The River,” “P.Y.T.,” and “One Love.” We hate that East St. Louis singer-songwriter Arama Brown, who co-wrote and sings with Gourdin on “The River,” arrived too late to perform it with him on stage as scheduled.
Funny man Darius Bradford opened the evening, which included a funny routine about White Castle.
Congratulations to Majic 104.9 for doing what it does for 30 years — no easy feat in this fickle radio market.
