Word on the street leading up to rapper Lil Wayne’s concert Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena at St. Louis University was terrible.
It ranged from the idea he was in rehab and would miss the show to talk he’d only perform three songs.
But in the end, Lil Wayne gave fans a memorable night, for the right reasons.
The New Orleans rapper’s full, hour-plus set included “Lollipop,” “A Milli,” “Got Money,” and “Mrs. Officer” from the year’s top-selling CD, “Tha Carter III.” He also delivered “Fireman,” “Tha Block is Hot,” “Back That Thang Up,” “Love in This Club” remix, and “Leather So Soft,” on which he played a bit of guitar.
Rapper Birdman joined him for “Stuntin’ With My Daddy” and “Pop Bottles.”
St. Louis rapper Murphy Lee opened, and was aided by Nelly and the rest of the St. Lunatics on “Shake Ya Tailfeather.” Other songs during the set included “My Shoes,” “Air Force Ones,” and “Stepped on My J’s.”
Why do we detect a real sneakers thing going on with the St. Louis crew?

Um…o.k. I hear but I’m still not a fan of Lil Wayne and not sure if that day will ever come. And maybe I’m wrong but I think the My Shoes record is about car wheels!
