Girl groups: Which one do you want to reunite?
The CD release on Tuesday of “Back to Now” from ’70s act Labelle, the fierce girl group who gave us “Lady Marmalade,” proves it’s never too late for a reunion.
It took over 30 years, but Labelle’s Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash put aside their differences and have produced an incredible piece of work with Lenny Kravitz and others lending a hand.
Music’s graveyard is overstuffed with the ghosts of girl groups, who just can’t seem to hold it together as long as their male counterparts.
Which one would you most like see rise like a “Phoenix” (the title of a classic Labelle album).
See more on Labelle’s comeback in Sunday’s Post-Dispatch.

Well, a botched attempt was made a few years back, but I’d love to see the Supremes do a real reunion. Second tier, uh, Vanity 6!
In first place, by a mile, EN VOGUE!!!!!! In second, Zhane. Tied for third place…Brownstone and KutKlose.
UM. Someone already said Vanity6. I can dig it. If we are going old school, I would say Taste of Honey or The Jones Girls. They really had some hits.
Oooh, How about SWV?
C U Tonite!
I would say En Vogue, Brownstone, and Jade. I’d like to say Vanity 6, but not sure that Vanity would be down with that, given her change in career path…lol.
Does it have to be an R&B girl group? If not, then I would LOVE to see a reunion of The Bangles. That girl group kicked booty!
If it has to be R&B/Dance, then I like the group that sang the song “In My House” back in the 80’s.
Hi Joey,
It doesn’t have to be an R&B girl group at all.
I’d go for a Bangles reunion…as well as Bananarama lol.
But seriously, I would!
The “In My House” gals were the Mary Jane Girls.
I always put Vanity 6 over Mary Jane Girls.
I’d also like to the see Ronettes, the Supremes, Luscious Jackson, and the Emotions.
Well if I could have ANY girl group reunite, (which isn’t possible unfortunately) it would be TLC…. BUT, the reunion that is more realistic that I am REALLY REALLYYYYY hoping goes through and they blow up is EnVogue… They ALL look great. I really hope they come out with this reunion cd of the ORIGINAL EnVogue like they plan on doing next year. Seen pics of them and videos of them performing. So I just hope it happens.
And ummmm didn’t Salt & Pepa do a reality show about getting back together, what happened? I heard they were performing still.
I’m really curious about this Labelle CD, although they were before my time. I heard one track online and thought it was decent (considering my prejudices against Akon-produced collaborations, lol).
Original En Vogue would be sick! Dawn Robinson so messed it up by leaving the group. I also agree with CoCo about SWV, but did anybody think about Jade? “Don’t Walk Away” is one of many Jade joints I rocked in the early ’90s.
So over the Supremes…more so Diana Ross! All about Vanity 6 and En Vogue.
P.S. I agree with one-eyed willie: A Zhane reunion MUST happen in my lifetime. Two women, singers and songwriters in their own right, who still make good music as solo artists, but when they work together….MAN.
