Nectar nightclub shuts down for refiguring

Nectar lounge, a hip staple on downtown St. Louis’ nightlife scene the past three years, is closing with a party at 9 p.m. Friday so it can return later anew.

“It’s at the end of its life cycle and needs to be refreshed,” says Lounge Concepts’ Amit Dhawan, explaining that’s the L.A. way of doing things.

He says it’s not unusual there for a club to operate for six months and close, then reopen as something different. He says Nectar’s life cycle was only meant to be two years. “People always want the new thing,” he says.

Friday’s party will largely bring back the club’s original staff to come in and honor Nectar, as well as celebrate “the fact the club redefined St. Louis nightlife,” says Dhawan.

He says Nectar, where many celebrities have partied including Nelly and Kanye West, introduced everything from Patron to bottle service to nightlife here.

Nectar returns in December with private events before reopening officially New Year’s Eve as more of a themed restaurant and bar, along the lines of Mosaic or Barcelona, with earlier hours.

It’s been a long time since Nectar was on my list of must-hits. Glad that its life cycle has run its coarse. Best of luck in its next life cycle. Now how do we make that happen at The Loft?

I love that there’s a club entrepreneur who is bringing the Coast-style nightlife concept to St. Louis, vs. conforming to what they think that St. Louis is ready for.
