Nelly planning supergroup with T-Pain, Akon, Pharrell
While Nelly’s “Brass Knuckles” CD continues its quick slide down the charts, the rapper has announced plans for a can’t miss supergroup project with T-Pain, Akon and Pharrell.
He recently revealed this to MTV News, though no timetable has been set as he first focuses on projects from Murphy Lee, and St. Lunatics, not to mention his own CD.
Meanwhile, “Brass Knuckles,” for those of us keeping track, is at No. 67 on the Billboard 200 after five weeks of release.
The CD sold 7,800 copies last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, for a grand total of 147,000 copies sold.
The album needs the infusion of a true hit single now, and may get it with next scheduled single “One and Only.”
“Brass Knuckles” deserves a better reception that what it’s getting, doesn’t it, and will “One and Only” do the trick?

***OPEN LETTER TO NELLY***
Dear Nelly,
I really do enjoy your music and I think I was #2,567 who bought your latest CD. I have all of your CD’s and look forward to supporting St. Louis artist but I can’t let you do this. I can’t sit back and say nothing while you go out there and form a group with the above mentioned artist. When you start talking about “supergroups” and you are #67 and haven’t sold 200,000 copies of your last CD, I think it might be time to shift your focus. You have the potential of having a “supergroup” right here if he would start putting a little more energy into Murphy Lee. A supergroup with Nelly but without Murphy Lee…is like drawing the St. Louis skyline without the Arch…it just doesn’t make any sense! What you should have done was to have that funny looking T-Pain character get on all of your songs doing hooks and have Pharell do all of your beats and then you would have had a “super album” instead of trying to do a comeback with a “supergroup.” We know you put St. Louis on the map, but don’t have us yanked right back up with these foolish moves.
Sincerely
Ms STL
P.S. – start looking at forming a “super marketing team” so that whatever your next venture is, it can get some “super sales”
Why does Pharrell keep working with this clown?
Nelly, we all loved Country Grammar. We even got down to Pimp Juice. But this new stuff is played. And I know you like working out and everything, but what’s with the roided out look? I still have a Vokal shirt from the old days and I bet if you flexed in a XL size, you’d rip it in half.
In order to stay on top you need club playing getcha moving music and this just doesn’t have it. I agree with Ms. STL: stick to your roots Nelly and don’t forget where your from and who got you there. Ms. “I think I’m somebody but ain’t” has your head screwed up! It’s been over 5 years since she’s had anything worth hearing and has passed the “Big Head” complex on to you…
Why do STL fans seem to look forward more to a release of Murphy Lee than Nelly? Who has more to gain by the formation of this supergroup, Nelly or the others? Will this supergroup actually happen, isn’t Nelly good for saying one thing and doing something completely contrary? Where have you been John C. Kevinson?
