What’s really wrong with Janet Jackson?

Janet Jackson on her "Rockwitchu" tour

Janet Jackson fans, including this one, have been wondering why the the pop diva is missing so many of her concerts on her new “Rockwitchu” tour.

Jackson has postponed or rescheduled more shows than she has actually performed on the tour, which is scheduled for Oct. 24 at Kansas City’s Sprint Center.

The Sept. 27 show in Detroit was postponed to Oct. 28 because of production constraints. The word was her show and Celine Dion’s show at the same venue were scheduled too close together, not allowing time for proper set up and break down.

Since then, Jackson’s fans in Atlanta, Greensboro, Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, and Ft. Lauderdale have been left holding onto their tickets after she has postponed shows in those cities, sometimes at the last minute.

Each of those postponements, most of which haven’t been rescheduled yet, involved Jackson taking sick days off for an unexplained illness that landed her a brief stay in the hospital.

Since no illness has been named, speculation is running rampant regarding what’s going on.

Guesses include everything from a pregnancy to her suffering from vertigo to poor ticket sales (Jackson, whose “Rhythm Nation” tour was the biggest debut tour ever, isn’t pulling the numbers she used to in concert arenas or with CD sales)

Hopefully Jackson will recover soon and get back out there to waiting fans.

I am a huge JJ fan but am the first to say, she is not what she once was. I have been anxiously awaiting this tour of hers but realistically knew that it would not happen. I think that she realistically knew also that it would not happen. Many of the cities are so small and obscure that it smelled of postponements from day one. I just hate that I may not have the chance to see her and that horrible faux-hawk she is sporting. My bet, she’s pregnant with Michael’s baby.

The ticket sales have been great.
The reviews have been the best of her career.
Get well soon J.
We love you!

Ticket sales have been great? Just how do you define great? Over the weekend I checked ticket availability in KC and could purchase two floor seats in the 7th row…back in the day, that would never have happened.

The reviews have been the best of her career? Well damn, that may not be too hard to do considering she has cancelled more shows than she has performed.

Kevin, can you verify how well this tour has sold/reviews in comparison to her previous tours?

Aight here’s my theory on Janet and what’s going on… True she may not be selling out shows like she once did BUT the tickets sales for her show have not been that bad to where the whole show should be cancelled. She has done six shows which two of the six, (vegas and la) were sell outs. And the other four, except for San Diego have ALL been VERY close to selling out.. BUT, even if that may be the case LiveNation may not be receiving the prophets they want or even Janet may not (the show looks expensive)..

I do agree the tour schedule is HORRIBLE!.. I think she needs to just postpone the tour till next month if she is this sick, and go from Nov till Dec or early January since she hasn’t announced any overseas dates. I don’t think cancelling the whole tour would be good, UNLESS she is pregnant. But overall I just hope she is okay, her health does come first.

Oh and also in her defense, unless you are in a MAJOR city or have a REALLY good concert lineup on your tour, most tours now are not selling well AT ALL.. The econonmy is not great, and yet artist like Janet and Madonna, and even Tina Turner are selling concert tickets for 100+..People don’t have that kind of money now a days. And surely not one of those ladies need anymore money.

Jackson’s illness is called poor ticket and album sales. She is simply not the star she once was and her desperation in trying to be is painful to behold. Her famous “wardrobe malfunction” was one in a long line of attempts to draw media attention in the hopes it would translate into record sales, which it didn’t. More recently she has tried to portray getting dumped by her record company as her decision. Who is she kidding? It must affect her enthusiasm for performing, but it’s unprofessional for her to “call in sick.”

My wife and I are huge JJ fans too - we have been lucky enough to see her on all five of her tours - the last one here in Chicago just a few weeks ago, before the mysterious illness set in and the string of cancellations began. No, she’s not at the top of her game anymore, the music industry is a tough business to stay on top of but at least she’s had a historical career. This last show here in Chicago was executed with tight precision, she worked very hard and we were surprised at the intimacy of the show. She (alone) demanded the stage most of the concert night and at times it seemed like a one-woman show. Her stage lacked the theatrics of all prior tours and we were disappointed at that. She still is one of our all time top three artists though and we will likely stay with her into her (our) senior years. As far as getting sick, we can remember past tours where she always cancelled dates - she’s just one of those people that get sick often - as hard as she’s working on stage we can surely understand.

She is a “has been” and the nauseas feeling in her stomach is pride… It hard to believe, she would have any left… She has been an “Attention ******” (Rhymes with war), her whole life… At a time when she can finally step out of her brother shadow, nobody cares… Because she is a “has been”…. The wardrobe malfunction was a last plea for “HEY, LOOK AT ME!!!”… And it didn’t get the results she was hoping for… Too bad, she had talent… Just never quite lived up to it…. Just another member of a grossly dysfunctional family… Joe Jackson should be very proud of the scars, he left on his kids….

Vertigo…really? I do think that the lack of anticipation and success so far is taking its toll on her, poor thing. I do hope that she can get better and get her career back on track, but I have a feeling that she realizes that this may be over for her.

Here’s one thing I don’t get… I don’t know how many of you all have a “passion” for anything. But when u have a “passion” for something, Wheterh you sell 100 million albums or 1 million, you still do it because of your love for the art… So why should Janet give up music and dance because she isn’t as popular as she once was… Janet doesn’t have to prove a damn thing to ANYONE, she is one of the biggest most innovative female artist EVER! There will NEVER be another Janet.. There has yet to be in the 25 years she has been in the industry another artist, especially an african american female artist that has contributed to music, visually creative videos, and creative dance moves like Janet.

Again I don’t know how many of you all have PASSIONS for anything.. But if you passion was based off of how the “public” recieved you, then it was never really true!
