David Archuleta vs. David Cook

A music battle settled in the spring is about to enter a new phase.

Blue Springs native David Cook took the “American Idol” crown back in May, besting teenager David Archuleta. Now, in a best laid plan, the Davids are going at it again, this time for record sales.

Archuleta is up first, releasing his self-titled debut Tuesday, while Cook’s self-titled effort is out one week later, Nov. 18.

Who’s coming out on top this go-round?

Did you people not get the memo? The competition between David Cook and David Archuleta is long, long over! David Cook won that competition, but in life beyond Idol, both young men are absolute winners; they’re blazingly talented, wonderful people, and they are genuinely fond of one another. They’re also vastly different in their musical styles, and comparing them is like comparing Mozart to U2; both are excellent, but excellent in their own areas of passion.
Articles like these might be easy, junkfood journalism to generate, but they do a disservice to both Davids. They encourage fanwars and that might score you hits on a website, but it’s nothing to be commended. I wish both Davids the very very best in all they do, and most fans do, regardless of who their favourite might be, but sadly there are some who have nothing better to do than ‘hate’ on one singer or the other.

We owe them both so much for reviving a show that had lost its luster. David Archuleta has yet to even tap his potential and his album is great. I even think Cook may not always be pigeonholed as a rocker. They are friends. The rivalry is an artificial media construct. We can enjoy them both without reserve.

Rock vs Pop that isn’t a fair compition. If you want fair than put Cook against his counterpart idol 4th place finisher Daughtry and put Archuleta against season 6 winner and teenage pop star Jordin Sparks. Either way David Archuletas first single crush is a smash hit. When looking at sales numbers Light On has not sold as well as Crush did with the same Audience Impression…Light On isn’t gaining the sales, and without a hit single Cook will have a hard time putting out a 2nd single. Just look at Taylor (who) His album went platinum but he never managed to have a hit single and was dropped from his label. David Archuleta has a smash hit which right now doesn’t seem the case for winner David Cook with Light On. Light On just doesn’t have any steam behind it. Even Daughtry’s first single was recieved better than David Cooks or Taylor Hicks. The music industry is fickle and once your off the show your on your own. American Idol winners are only guaranteed an opportunity to put out an album but they will be tossed aside like leftover steak if there singles don’t gain the airplay that is needed. Right now Cooks sales for his 1st single should be much higher at this point with so many stations adding it to there rotation. But his sales keep falling, so people are hearing it but they aren’t liking it enough to buy. Archuleta on the other hand has struggeled to get the stations to play his song yet when it is heard people love it and are buying it. So make of that what you want. Anyway you want to slice it the runner up is out performing the winner… If album sales are so important than why was Hicks dropped even after going platinum? Cook needs a hit single and Light On isn’t it. His label should pull it and move onto the next song or he will be on Broadway next year this time.

I can only laugh at people who compare David Cook to David Archuleta. It’s like comparing an elephant to a frog. Other than the fact that they both require oxygen to live, there are no similarities at all.

As Simon might say “This is all beginning to sound a little boring now”, only in this case he would not be talking about the music.

Millions of people voted for both these guys, I suspect the “writer” of this piece is hoping for similar figures.

personally, I think that Cook has the creative guns here with his arrangements; but Archuleta has the cleaner vocals and teen appeal. It will be interesting to see who wins this bout…or will it?

Man, I am getting tired of this David vs David thing. They are BOTH wonderful artists, and 2 different types of musical artists. I plan to buy BOTH their CD’s when they come out. This was one American Idol season that there were 2 winners. There is no David vs David in my mind…just David and David.

Thank you for bringing this matter up. It gives space for people like me to share my humble opinion.

I agree with Ariadne and some other, stop comparing and putting these two wonderful men as a reason for fan wars and even war. We are so use to look at things from the scarcity mindset where we put everything as competition including these two Davids. We have been conditioned to think there can only be one winner. Is it true that there can only be one winner? Yet we also have heard of win-win. However, when we are unconscious in our behaviour we propagate the win-lose mindset. I believe it’s not our original intention, however because we do not take charge of our thinking, it becomes ‘somebody’ else workshop!

Look around us; does this universe operate on the scarcity mindset or abundance mindset? The most important thing in our life that is oxygen is also in abundance. Water is also in abundance. However, human who play this win-lose game have tampered with the quality.

I watched the Idols finale and I saw how David Cook showed the attitude of win-win. I saw during the highlight of his achievement that night he brought Archie and the other finalist together to receive the recognition for the winning. From where I was watching that finale, Cook did not claim the win to himself alone. He shared it with all the other finalist. I also, read about how Archie talked positively about Cook. Let’s look at the examples they showed and let’s talk about the wonderful examples shown by these two idols in term of their win-win mindset.

We do not want war don’t we? Then why are we initiating it by propagating this scarcity mindset so rampantly? Don’t we realise that by doing this we are unintentionally initiating the most dreaded thing, the war? You may think how stupid and funny this sounded but think again! Know that all big things start from seemingly minute and trivial things.

Perhaps we think that the news will not sell when we talk only about the good things. The question that we want to ask ourselves, is this our original belief or a belief that we take unconsciously from others?

Why not we focus on quoting examples how these two Davids showed good examples of Abundance mindset. Perhaps there are some young minds that will embody this value and help create a peaceful and wonderful world. Than what we do here will bring positive difference to the world! And our life here becomes more meaningful.

Thank you.

love in Abundance,
Rose

STOP! YOU JUST NEED TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THE ONE WHO IS REAPING THE SUCCESS NOW A DAYS IS NO OTHER THAN DAVID ARCHULETA. THIS KID POPULARITY IS UNSTOPPABLE AND HE IS A SUPERSTAR IN THE MAKING. EVEN THOUGH HE WAS ROBBED IN AMERICAN IDOL - GOD RECOMPENSED HIM AND PAID HIM BACK MORE THAN HE COULD ASKED FOR AND THE EVIDENCE IS OBVIOUS ON WHATS GOING ON WITH HIS CAREER PLUS HIS SINGLE:CRUSH IS OFFICIALLY GOLD AND STILL GOING STRONG FOR PLATINUM. I AM NOT MAD THAT HE LOST AMERICAN IDOL; WHAT I AM MAD ABOUT IS WHEN THEY RIGGED THE RESULT AND HE IS THE RIGHTFUL WINNER TO SAY THE LEAST AND ITS VERY OBVIOUS NO OFFENSE MEANT TO MR. COOK AND HIS FANS AND YOU DON’T NEED TO EXPLAIN AND ONLY GOD AND THE CULPRIT WHO RIGGED THE RESULT KNOWS THE TRUTH.

I’ve listened to every song on David Archuleta’s new album and each song could be a #1 hit. I’ve bought 4 copies and am giving them to all my daughters.
