Associated Press' Top Album of the Year

Associated Press has unveiled its Top Ten Albums of 2008, and it’s a bit of doozy.

Take that any way you want.

The list includes everything from two releases both named “Fearless,” to the year’s top-selling CD, to a CD that’s not released until Tuesday.

I agree with three of the ten selections. Here’s the AP list:

1. Erykah Badu, “New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War”
2. Estelle, “Shine”
3. Sia, “Some People Have Real Problems”
4. Kanye West, “808s & Heartbreaks”
5. Jazmine Sullivan, “Fearless”
6. Lil Wayne, “Tha Carter III”
7. Taylor Swift, “Fearless”
8. Anthony Hamilton, “The Point of It All”
9. My Morning Jacket, “Evil Urges”
10. Mariah Carey, “E=MC2

Honorable mentions: N.E.R.D., “Seeing Sounds”; Katy Perry, “One of the Boys”; Al Green, “Lay It Down”; Pink, “Funhouse”; Lizz Wright, “The Orchard”

Did AP’s Top Ten Albums of 2008 get it right?

Narrow Stairs by Death Cab for Cutie, In Rainbows by Radiohead, Vampire Weekend’s and Fleet Foxes’ self-titled releases.

Ok, technicaly, In Rainbows came out at the end of 2007, but it was released on CD in the US on January 1 so I think it counts.

I think the new Jason Mraz album, “we sing we dance” is excellant.

Surprised to see Sia’s “Some People Have Real Problems” on this list. It’s a great CD, so I’m glad it has not been overlooked.

I’ll second the Vampire Weekend mention. That should definitley be at least an honorable mention. So should “Furr” by Blitzen Trapper.

What a terrible list!

Radiohead doesn’t come out, i had it in November of 2007. It was #1 last year.

And here it is, the John C. Kevinson top 10 albums of 2008……….

10. Jenny Lewis- Acid Tongue
9. Beck- Modern Guilt
8. Cut Copy- In Ghost Colours
7. Conor Oberst- Conor Oberst
6. Hot Chip- Made in the Dark
5. M83- Saturdays=Youth
4. The Hold Steady- Stay Positive
3. Vampire Weekend- Vampire Weekend
2. TV On The Radio- Dear Science
1. Fleet Foxes- Fleet Foxes

So there you have it, I am the only one that is right. My opinion matters most….

This is an official callout to Kevin C. Johnson to release his top ten of 2008. And Radiohead does not count, that was 2007.

Kevin,

With which three do you agree? Of AP’s list, I agree with Badu, Estelle, Sullivan, West and Wayne.
