Burning questions about the Grammy nominations
Rapper Lil Wayne is on top of this year’s Grammy nominations with a whopping eight nods, followed by Coldplay with seven.
Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West were close behind with six each as the nominations showed a youthful edge. Click here to view full list of Grammy nominations.
But once it’s all said and done, aren’t we fearful the duo of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant will walk away with Album of the Year, showing once again that the Grammys can be hip, but are fearful of taking it all the way.
That’s one of several burning Grammy questions I have.
– Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” was popular and fun, and we get making concessions to the year’s best-selling CD. But wasn’t his Album of the Year nomination still a shock?
– Didn’t you just know the Eagles and Alicia Keys would be Album of the Year nominees — although they weren’t.
– Aren’t you OK with Leona Lewis and Katy Perry getting left out of the Best New Artist category?
– Won’t Best New Artist nominees Adele and Duffy cancel each other out?
– Could the same thing happen to Coldplay and Radiohead for Album of the Year?
– Jonas Brothers as a Best New Artist nominee — seriously?
– When did women officially vanish from the rock categories?
– Doesn’t the Urban/Alternative Performance category deserve a recount?
– Beyonce’s new music was released too late to be nominated, but was it really necessary to hand her an obligatory nomination for an old song on her live DVD?
– How disappointed is Taylor Swift with her no-show, particularly after co-hosting Wednesday night’s Grammy special.
– Who did Carrie Underwood tick off this year?
– What the heck happened to Erykah Badu’s “New Amerykah Part 1: 4th World War,” which only earned a music video nomination for “Honey.”
– How cool is it that Ne-Yo’s “Year of the Gentleman” CD is an Album of the Year contender?

Kevin C. Johnson has covered the St. Louis' music and nightlife scene for the past decade.
Well I think congrads are in order!!!!
Why does anyone even care about the Grammys? I think their name reflects who they’re for - your Grammy.
i would like to see Hot Chip’s “Ready For The Floor” or Daft Punk’s “HBFS” from their Alive 2007 album win best dance record of the year, but since it’s the grammys it will probably go to Madonna or Rihanna… :’(
No Vampire Weekend, TVOTR, Fleet Foxes….just terrible
Radiohead is easily the album of the year, but they will give it to Robert Plant/AK….grammys are lame
John C.,
I think we may agree on what was the album of the year…Radiohead did rule.
Gotta love them.
Kevin C.
Shock of the Year! John C. Kevinson and Kevin C. Johnson agreeing on something musical. I love that Jazmine Sullivan did so well with her nominations.
just for good measure….Jazmine Sullivan is god-awful Do it Diva!
Unbelieveable that Beyonce got nominated for Me Myself and I, a song that came out 5 years ago. If they ran out of other contenders for that catagory maybe they could’ve picked Letacie (i’m sure I’m spelling her name wrong) but that girl is wicked and deserved some type of grammy for In The Morning, especially if we are talking Female Vocal.
I am extremely happy for NeYo, I said first time I heard his cd that it should be nominated for album of the year, but I never would’ve thought it would. So he is my “hopeful” winner. SHocked such a cd like Lil Waynes got nominated. I’m happy for him, but just shocked the grammys nominated such a cd like that. I would like for either one of them to win, perferably NeYo, but who knows. I just hate when that award goes to some unknown album and people are like huh?
John C. Kevinson,
Of course I should have known that the positivity couldn’t/wouldn’t last long–even if not aimed at Kevin C. Johnson. I do think that she has a hot album. I will agree to disagree with you on that one.
Stay up!
Yes, Leona Lewis need not a mention. Not feeling her. I’m Bleeding Sleep! SNOOZER!
