Singer Bradd Young

Café Soul is going full steam ahead with its new In the Spotlight series, focusing on St. Louis soul-rock-pop singer Bradd Young at 8 p.m. Friday at Lucas School House.

Young, who once had a record deal with Sony, is also a noted producer in town, with Aloha Mischeaux, Yo Gotti, and Jibbs among his latest projects.

Q. What can people expect out of your set Friday?

A. I’m for people having a good time, having a party with me. That’s what I’m all about. Just come out and have a wonderful time. I plan on doing a couple of originals nobody has heard before to see how the crowd reacts.”

Q. Tell me about those originals.

A. One is “Crazy.” It’s a song about a relationship I’m in. Everyone around me says I’m crazy about that person and would do anything for that person. Another song is “Representative.” When you meet somebody, they’re so perfect you’re meeting the representative. Then time goes go and they’re not the same person you met.

Q. Any cover tunes planned for your set?

A. “I’ll do a couple of covers, maybe James Brown or Al Green.
