See “Obsessed” movie trailer starring a non-singing Beyonce…uh oh

Beyonce’s acting style has always been a cross between a deer caught in headlights and a fish flopping out of water.

But she always works within the safety net of only portraying singers (”Dreamgirls,” “Cadillac Records”). That’s changing with her next movie, the PG-13 spring thriller “Obsessed.”

The trailer positions “Obsessed” as a “Fatal Attraction” meet “The Temp,” with Beyonce as the wronged wife. The flick looks perfectly suited and titled for straight-to-DVD consumption, except it has music’s It Girl, not to mention Idris Elba and Ali Larter.

Beyonce comes off as flat and monotone as always in the clip, but I’ll give this one a chance, just to see she and Larter’s knock-down battle scene.

What’s your early thought on the Beyonce thriller “Obsessed”

Usually your editorials are just mindless rants geared towards appeasing the overwhelmingly popular, drone-laden, children of the corn –esque mentality of the average St. Louis reader; however, this time you are as accurate as the emmy nomination for Merryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada”. Your characterization of Beyonce’s acting as a “deer caught in headlights” is nothing less than brilliant. Kudos to you for finally stepping out of main stream media… Maybe now Beyonce will begin to 1.) seek originality in her music; 2.) take an acting class and stop resting on “pretty”.

Wow Kev looks like someone ^^^^^ really dislikes your editiorials huh?….. lol. Anyway, I’m REALLY glad to see her doing a role that doesn’t require music. But this type of movie has been done PLENTY of times, and like you said if you took Beyonce out the equation this would be straight to DVD… Maybe there is a performance of her singing Single Ladies cleaning the house in the movie. Or her singing the long lengthy lengthy LIVE verison of Dangerously In Love while sitting in traffic. Trust me she will sing something in this movie, lol. But with all that said, I still will be going to see it, lol.

Okay, I’m laughing at all the opinions given thus far, so it’s only fair I give my own. It does look really direct-to-DVD, but you have B, Idris Alba (who looks a lil odd with no facial hair, IMO), Ali Larter, AND Jerry O’Connell in a movie? I think I’ll be seeing it, if only on bootleg, ala Frison’s Flea Market.

Yes, Beyonce’s acting does look a somewhat suspect in the trailer, but honestly, ALL the acting in the movie looks suspect from the trailer. Idris rarely lets me down though, so let’s give it a chance…

Before start my rant, lets go over Bey’s acting “career” (because I think you missed a few, Kev.) :

Carmen (singer)
Fighting Temptations (singer)
Austin Powers (singer?)
Pink Panther (…singer)
Dreamgirls (singer)
Caddy Records (singer..duh.)

Wow…after all these years of playing singers, she wants to portray the role of hair-pulling, been-done-wrong, wife and mother? I think I’m with ^^^ on this one. Flea market here I come. Because after seeing what was SUPPOSED to be the drug-overdose scene in Cadillac Records I was out for the count. This is just a cheap and generic version of 1987’s Fatal Attraction minus the bunny being boiled in the pot.

Beyonce…stick to making “hit” records, and avoiding the omnipresent threat of your lacefront wig coming off during live performances…and leave the acting up to Kelly Rowland.

Maybe it’s the optimist in me, but I don’t think she’s doing a bad job at all from the scenes that I’m seeing her in, nor do I think her weave looks atrocious, as some have suggested to me. True enough, her acting abilities have proven to be very green, to put it politely…but I’m actually seeing some emoting here….like her face actually moved a few times! I’m very interested to see how this is going to play out.

The fight scene does look interesting even though the film concept is definitely not new. In addition to “Fatal Attraction”, Lifetime has done at least 50 movies with this concept. I will go see just about anything with Idris Elba in it, but this looks a little cheesy and I don’t really care for Beyonce as an actress. So I’m thinking I’ll just go ahead and put this one in my Netflix queue. In fact, I’m thinking they could air this on the Lifetime Movie Network.
