Day26 leaves in-fighting at home during St. Louis visit
I’m not a fan of reality programs in general, but when I was offered a Day26 interview for last night, there was no hesitation.
The current season of MTV’s “Making the Band,” which features new R&B quintet Day26, is reality TV at its best/worst. The singers have been at each others’ throats in recent episodes, mostly surrounding suddenly difficult singer Que.
All the cussing, shouting, fighting, accusations, and other assorted tomfoolery has made the usually tame show a whole different viewing experience, and must-see TV.
Que along with Willie, Brian, Mike, and Robert settled down with me for a few fast-paced minutes in a comfy VIP area at nightclub the Venue, where they were to perform later, to talk about the show and their second CD, “Forever in a Day,” coming out Tuesday.

Q. What the heck is going on this season? It’s crazy.
A. (Que) I’m a person with a strong opinion, and when I feel I’m right I like to get my point across. But I’ve learned to listen to other people, and I’ve learned from my mistakes. And I apologize to anyone out there who thinks I’m out of my mind. I’m not crazy.
(Willie) I think we look crazy. But at the end of the day we’re a family, and we’re strong right now. If we never went through this, we’d never know how much we cared. It was just one of those situations.
(Brian) People say I need anger management. That’s so not true, though I will say the way I’m portrayed through editing is as the angry black man. At one point or another we all blow up. The thing about MTV is they can choose what character they want you to be. I’m usually just on the computer and goofing off. But my blow ups are kind of intense.
Q. Who is holding this group together?
A. (Que) We’re all the glue holding this together. Diddy put five leaders in this group to make history and sing together as a group. God will keep us together.
Q. What’s up with the new album?
A. (Robert) The first album was amazing, but everything was in place already when we got there, who we were working with and how they wanted us to do it. This time, Diddy was busy so he left us all alone.
Q. Que, what’s going to happen with you and (Danity Kane) singer Dawn?
A. We’re still together. Nothing can break us apart. You don’t find true love in a lot of people.
Q. What was your day in St. Louis been like?
A. (Que) It’s been cool, just interviews and meet-and-greets and lots of rain. The people have ben cool, no haters.

Kevin C. Johnson has covered the St. Louis' music and nightlife scene for the past decade.
I think Diddy needs to make a wise business decision and kick Que out the group. Clearly, from all the chaos he is causing, he is not mature enough to be in the group. Que has some deep spiritual issues going on that needs to be dealt with. The other group members can pretend that things are going to get better but they are going to end up like the previous making the band groups.
Diddy is a very intellegent man and all this DRAMA is what all the views want to see!!! Smart choice!
Diddy is a real business man and knows that keeping Que in the group is great for those MTV ratings and will hopefully drive those same viewers to go buy the album. I really didn’t think Que was bad at all when I met him yesterday and but he seemed to me one of the calm one.
I love and support Day26 no matter what they go through. Sometimes you have
to go through it to get to where you need to be. This group is amazing together. Everyone in the group has an amazing voice. I think they really
have big love for each other.
I think they’re very talented. I like their music….all groups have problems.
I THINK QUE JUSTS NEEDS A BREAK AND APPARENTLY DIDDY KNEW THAT AND HE TOOK IT UNDER CONTROL, BUT DIDDY JUST APPEARED AT THE WRONG TIME. BASICALLY HE MADE THEIR WHOLE SITUATION WORSE. DAWN DID A GREAT JOB MEDIATING THIS SITUATION WITHOUT DAWN THE GROUP PROBABLY WOULD AHVE BROKE UP.
