I went to an 80’s party last night and had a blast

Well, this pretty much ruins my summer.

If it was cancelled for lack of sales, well, you can almost guarantee it’s the economy. A lot of people in their 30’s-50’s are out of work. Who can afford a concert ticket when your house is getting foreclosed on?

Wait, a bunch of one-hit wonders whose one-hits came more than 20 years ago can’t sell tickets? I can’t believe it.

I was actually thinking of going to this, for comedic value. Maybe this would work at The Pageant or even Off Broadway, but Family Arena is way too big for this lineup. It’s worth the price of admission just to see Flock of Seagull’s hair.

The first mistake they made was calling it a Summer Bash. It is still spring on June 13. Here is the deal, concert promoters — in the Northern hemisphere, based on astronomical definition, summer begins on the day of the June solstice. In St. Louis, that is just after midnight on Sunday June 21. So, you call it a Summer Bash and immediately you are confusing everyone, so no wonder no tickets were sold.

Second, it is at the Family Arena. When you have bands with Romantics and Naked in their names, that is not family entertainment. So, you could not have marketed this show worse, calling it a summer party for families when it is in the spring and clearly not for families. Don’t even get me started on the fact there are zero Seagulls in the St. Charles area.

Thanks for the explanation.

The economy may be one reason tickets did not sell. I’d say the other is that some 80’s bands were just awful the first time around and are still not worth the price of admission. Hey, I love 80’s music, but “A Flock of Seagulls”?

don’t the organizers of this know that the “family” arena primarily caters to acts and groups with “family values”–you know, like all of those war-loving, Muslim bashing country “christians” like Toby Keith?

Half of the people in Saint Charles still believe that the AIDS quilt causes global warming.

Dang. Now I need to head to the Dr’s office to hear their music.
