Vibe magazine shuts down
“Thanks for everything.”
That’s the message sent via Twitter from Vibe magazine, which announced today it is closing.
The once-great Vibe quickly led the field for urban music journalism when it debuted in 1993, and for a long time was a must-read.
But in recent years, the quality began slipping, and its demise doesn’t feel like a surprise.
Blender music magazine closed up shop last year (not to be confused with this blog, the Blender).

Kevin C. Johnson has covered the St. Louis' music and nightlife scene for the past decade.
Yeah I saw that… Unbelieveable. But real talk, I can’t even think of the last Vibe I bought.. I use to get them EVERY month.. But for the last 4 or 5 years they have sucked.
Yeah, it’s sad, but not really a surprise. I hope someone in the new media can do what Vibe was able to do in its heyday.
Wow…it’s always sad to see a popular staple in my upbringing to all of a sudden cease to exist. I mean, I haven’t picked one up since probably the last time that Janet was on the cover, but STILL!
