Three music legends, Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, and Willie Nelson, came to GCS Ballpark in Sauget Thursday night for “The Bob Dylan Show.”

Our reviewer, Daniel Durchholz, says “Dylan’s set was slightly disappointing, Mellencamp’s muscular and Nelson’s the same as always. And disappointingly, there were no superstar collaborations.”

What did you think of the concert?

Wille was better than expected, thought getting old would wear him down, but the dude still has it. Mellencamp’s was more than good, perhap the best I have seen, and wow! such a band. Just wish he had done Rocking in the USA. Dylan, well not a better band put together, and the music was good, he just cannot sing anymore, like the blues take he took though. All in all a lot of fun

I thought Mellencamp and Dylan were excellent. One does not go to a Dylan concert for his singing. I thought he performed with passion and that his voice was stronger this time out then his past two performances at the Fox. The songs chosen for his set were great and the rendition of “Like A Rolling Stone” was a real gem.

To say Dylan just can’t sing anymore is one of the most overused phrases for reviews of his show. Dylan can sing it’s just not your standard voice, the way he uses it and delivers lines is the key. I have been to three shows previously in the three years before this one and thought his voice was the clearest tonight. He played three songs on guitar and actually moved out from the keyboards for a couple songs which I haven’t seen before so it was nice to see him move around. I wish he would have played a couple more songs off his new album but besides that the set list was pretty good I’ve seen better but when the voice was as clear as that you can’t get any better.

Very dissapointed in that cheapo ballpark/state fairground sound.
The majority of the crowd heard an echo-laden and overly midrange-y sound, vocals were muddy, just terrible sound altogether.
Here’s why:
“Flying speakers” are designed to reach only the crowd immediately in front of the stage, they’re not meant to service the whole crowd. Larger “long-throw” speakers are set on the sides of the stage for the rest of the crowd, they are your your MAIN speakers- and there were none!

The last time Will & Dyl played GMC, there wer several MAIN speaker setups in the outfield areas that delivered crystal-clear sound to everybody in the ballpark and there were huge screens showing the stage.
It was one of the best-sounding outdoor shows I’ve ever seen!

There is no excuse for not having quality sound (MAIN speakers) at this size of event, especially with a ticket price of $75.
What a ripoff!
