In a little bit of role reversal, Albert Pujols was on the driving range watching the likes of Adam Scott and Jay Williamson take batting practice this morning

By the way, Williamson teed off to a big ovation on the No. 10 tee of his home course.

He went on to shoot a two-under-par 68 for his first round — same as Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim, among others — and trailed early leader Camilo Villegas by four shots.

This is going to sound like hometown drivel, but it is truly remarkable the number of people who are coming into the golf course. Apparently, the weather has not dampened spirits. I ran into PGA Tour official Rick George, who is a Collinsville, Ill. product, and he was smiling from ear to ear.

“It’s amazing the number of people coming,” George said. “I knew this was going to be a great event; it’s just a great sports town.”

George doesn’t get back often, but he is glad to have the opportunity. He will be having dinner with members of his family tonight although it will cost him a seat at the Cardinals game. “I’d love to see a game while I’m here, I love the Cardinals,” he added.
