Why we think the Body Worlds exhibition is newsworthy
We have gotten a handful of readers’ comments about the use of the Body Worlds story — and the photos in particular — on the front page of the Post-Dispatch and the home page of STLtoday.com.
We felt that the announcement of this exhibition was a worthy subject for a story on top of our web site and on the front page of the newspaper. Is it the most urgent, hard breaking news? Certainly not. However, the exhibition has been enormously popular in ever city where it has appeared, attracting literally millions of visitors. Based on the number of people it could potentially affect, the fact that it is coming to St. Louis seems like a worth front-page topic.
We tried to use some sensitivity about which images we used on both the home page of our web site and the newspaper — and, in fact, we have changed the home page photo to accommodate some concerns that were raised.
UPDATE: Some of the readers’ comments on our Talk of the Day topic about Body Worlds also confirms the great interest in the topic.

Kurt is the director of social media for the Post-Dispatch, where he has worked since August 2002. He's been a journalist since 1982, covering municipal government, courts, education and two hurricanes as a reporter before becoming an editor.
This reminds me of when some members of the broadcast media chose to use the occasion of a news story that referenced the male member of a well-know figure (I can’t remember if it was Bill Clinton or Michael Jackson) as an excuse to say the word “p*n*s” on the air.
Is the P-D really showing the images to support the news story, or just because it can?
