I just returned from a week’s vacation (to Memphis) and listened to about two dozen voice mails from readers of the Post-Dispatch. Three were complaints about photos that appeared on the front page. One caller said we “missed the story” by running a photo of Sen. Biden on Sunday’s A1 without Sen. Obama. Obama’s historic candidacy is the bigger story, he said, even on the day Biden was announced as the veep candidate.
Another caller said this photo of Michael Phelps, Brendan Hansen and Aaron Piersol celebrating their victory in the 4 X 100-meter relay had a major omission: the fourth member of the relay team
Another caller said the photo below of Christian Cantwell, who won a silver medal in the shot put, was disrespectful to the flag. Flags shouldn’t be draped around shoulders. Just because someone chooses to celebrate in an inappropriate manner, we don’t need to show it, she said.
