Too little Teddy Kennedy?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Did the Post-Dispatch do Teddy Kennedy justice in this morning’s paper?

The news crew at C-Span last night was aglow over the tribute as it aired live. Their enthusiasm captured the magic of the moment — or perhaps gave it a greater presence than warranted.

In any event, editors at the Post-Dispatch last night devoted a total of 7 inches of news space in today’s paper to the Teddy tribute.

By contrast, the New York Times led with Kennedy and the Washington Post offered a lengthy account of the pageantry.

The Post-Dispatch had four longer convention stories and six digest items before the 7 inches of Kennedy doings appeared on A10. On the front page, the Post-Dispatch featured Michelle Obama’s speech and an analysis of women’s political clout by Jo Mannies.

Below is what we ran. Adequate?

The Associated Press
DENVER • Sen. Edward M. Kennedy told a cheering Democratic National Convention Monday night that his is “a season of hope” for a stronger future in America, his wave familiar, his voice firm, despite his struggle against brain cancer.
And he added: “I pledge to you that I will be there next January on the floor of the United States Senate.”
That had special meaning given the bleak prognosis he faces with his disease.
“The hope rises again and the dream lives on,” he said, concluding his seven minutes at the microphone, minutes of high and unexpected drama.
He flew to Denver Sunday night, and his first stop was a hospital, where doctors examined him. The brain cancer was diagnosed after he collapsed in May in Hyannis Port, Mass.
After brain surgery in June, he had remained at home, save for a brief trip to Washington to cast a Senate vote on July 10 for Medicare legislation that had been in deadlock.

More than adequate - actually too much. I can anticipate what his funeral will be like.
What I found offensive about his “tribute” was that it involved so much water. Personally, I wouldn’t have gone there. Then after making fun of MCain’s houses, they show “Uncle Teddy” on his sailing yacht. What gross hypocrisy!

Democrats and the American Left are all about the cult of personality. Their current nominee is no exception. Kennedy is easily the most overrated American politician in the last 100 years. Can anyone cite a single thing he’s done that justifiably earns him the mantle of Absolute Moral Authority?

Doubt the family and friends of Mary Jo Kopechne felt any glow.

“Democrats and the American Left are all about the cult of personality.”
This is definitely the kettle calling the pot black. “Cult of personality” — let’s have the Republicans do away with the “cult of personality” they have surrounding Ronald Reagan. Or how about the one certain Republican extremists keep trying to get going about the current President Bush (the WalMart sponsored man of destiny tripe).
