A new navigation for STLtoday.com

We’ve streamlined the way the navigation works at the top of STLtoday.com.

In the past, each channel would open a drop-down menu when you moused over it. The dropdown gave details of every blog, column and forum available in that channel. Unfortunately, that dropdown also obscured much of the content on the page. Now, each channel reveals a narrow menu bar when you mouse over it. The menus lead you to highlights within the section, rather than a complete index of the section.

We hope the new change:
* makes it easier for you to find what your looking for.
* leads to faster page loading.
* increases your satisfaction with STLtoday.com.
* builds traffic for our site.

Some of you appreciated having the thorough index at the top of the site. But many of you complained that it was simply too much. As Josh Johnston of Hazelwood wrote: “I can appreciate the notion of having every single column and option available at the top, but it’s a pain to navigate.” Or, as Arnie Kaufman of Wentzville suggested: “The pop-up menus are too large and annoying.”

Now you can get to headlines and breaking news throughout the site more quickly. Just click on the channel (Sports, News, Business, etc.)

If you want to get to your favorite blog or column, you can mouse over the appropriate channel, the click on Blogs, Columns or Forums. That will take you to the right spot.

Note: If the new navigation isn’t immediately showing up for you, try holding down the control and shift keys and refreshing the page. That should clear out the old styles on the page and allow the new navigation to work.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Personally, I like the new layout much better. I’m sure there will be some who won’t like it though. I really was annoyed with that big dropdown covering the page.

Thank you for making me click at least 2 or 3 more times to get where I want to go. When my right index finger develops advanced clickitus, who should I send the bill to?

I still can’t get the lottery numbers at work because the links to the sites are blocked out(Government No-No Gambling Sites). Why don’t the STL Today site just post the lottery numbers like they use to.

Much, much better - I absolutely hated that huge box that would come down and get in the way. Thanks for the big improvement.

WHERE’S EAT AT JOE’S??? I DONT LIKE THIS NEW FORMAT. APPARENTLY A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING EAT AT JOE’S BECAUSE THERE’S HASN’T BEEN ANY POSTINGS SINCE 1/13. WHERE IT IS??

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FORUM AND A BLOG, THEY LOOK THE SAME.

I’m sorry, but your site-search function is still the worst I’ve ever used. For instance, today I searched for “KV Pharmaceutical”, a company that’s been in the headlines for the past few days. Results? first, a story from last summer, followed by two undated articles of indeterminate content, followed by another article from last summer, and then more undated articles. Apparently they all involve St. Louis Bridal. I could not tell if any of the articles were relevant to this week’s breaking news. This is typical of every site search–missing dates, not enough content in the search results, outdated stories, and annoying advertising. No wonder I so rarely turn to STL Today.com.
