The publisher of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is calling Sen. Harry Reid a bully — and has vowed to take on the Democratic majority leader if he bullies anyone else.

At a Chamber of Commerce lunch last week, Reid shook the hand of the newspaper’s advertising director and told him: “I hope you go out of business,” according to Publisher Sherman Frederick.

In a column Sunday, Frederick described ad director Bob Brown as “a hard-working Nevadan who toils every day on behalf of advertisers. He has nothing to do with news coverage or the opinion pages of the Review-Journal.”

Frederick wrote:

You could call Reid’s remark ugly and be right. It certainly was boorish. Asinine? That goes without saying.

But to fully capture the magnitude of Reid’s remark (and to stop him from doing the same thing to others) it must be called what it was — a full-on threat perpetrated by a bully who has forgotten that he was elected to office to protect Nevadans, not sound like he’s shaking them down.

Frederick made this “promise” to its readers:

For the sake of all who live and work in Nevada, we can’t let this bully behavior pass without calling out Sen. Reid. If he’ll try it with the Review-Journal, you can bet that he’s tried it with others. So today, we serve notice on Sen. Reid that this creepy tactic will not be tolerated.

We won’t allow you to bully us. And if you try it with anyone else, count on going through us first.

Reminiscent of the time Bill Clay gloated over the shuttering of the Globe-Democrat. Seems he was celebrating the ascension of his preferred platform in the new one-paper town.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. The Democrats have been trying shut down everyone who does not agree with them for years. This is no different than the boycot against Whole Foods. They have no shame when it comes to the First Amendment. This is just the tip of the iceberg. On the other hand, with Senator’s like this, it is easy to see why all the newspapers in the country step so lightly when reporting on this administration and Congress.

They have yet to report this

even though they insisted on transparency under the Bush Admin. Or when is the PD going to report about Mark Lloyd, Obama’s apppointed Diversity Czar at the PD.http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/14/fairness-doctrine-raises-its-ugly-head-under-new-fcc-diversity-czar/
Or why has the story been missing about Charlie Rangel, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee finding lots more money when he refiled his tax return. Come on guys! If none of this scares you, than you are too afraid to look people. Sometimes the truth hurts.

What I find ironic, is that the Democrats are all about choice - as long as that choice is only about being able to have an abortion. I can’t think of anywhere else that they believe people should have free choice on anything.

Good post Steve!

Unbelieveable that the majority leader in the senate to attack any business in or out of his elected territory for free speech is horrible and he needs to be gone on the next election. He is a bully and thinks his statis gives him the right to say anything he wants. His State is suffering right now with lack of jobs and to even think he would want a business to go down and have even more people out of work in incredible. What jerk this man has proved to be. I hope the people of Nevada will wise up and get him out. You may print what I have said. I live in Oklahoma and am of his religious belief and I am ashamed and embassed for this man to even say he is LDS. Thank you, Barbara J. Richardson Real Estate Broker in Norman, Oklahoma

Barbara, take some consolation in that Reid is not a real Mormon. He “converted” just in order to run for political office in Nevada.
Enough said.
