Lack of ACORN coverage spurs allegations of liberal bias

In a comment on the Editors’ Desk blog post about Van Jones, Nonpartisan says:

You guys missed it….clearly. And you issued the same B.S. statement that the NY Times printed after they “missed it” as well. You guys didn’t miss, you chose not to run it. AND, you’re currently missing the ACORN story about how, in 3 cities, they were caught trying to illegally fund a brothel and hide the revenue from it.

A few callers have criticized our lack of coverage and display of the ACORN story, calling it evidence of liberal bias. One told me that the 16-inch story on Page A6 of Tuesday’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch — Senate pulls plug on aid to ACORN. Vote follows bad publicity resulting from hidden-camera video of activities. — brushed over the greater scandal. Nonetheless, he said, it should have appeared on Page One.

The story by Andrew Taylor of the Associated Press reported:

The action came as the group is suffering from bad publicity after a pair of conservative activists posing as a prostitute and her pimp released hidden-camera videos in which ACORN employees in Baltimore gave advice on house-buying and how to account on tax forms for the woman’s income. Two other videos, aired frequently on media outlets such as the Fox News Channel, depict similar situations in ACORN offices in Brooklyn and Washington.

Dan Gainor expresses similar criticism of the national media on FoxNews.com. In an opinion piece titled “ACORN Story Grows But Mainstream Media Refuse to Cover It,” Gainor writes:

This is the news media in the era of Van Jones and President Obama. The major outlets cover what they want and create the themes they want. When they find something inconvenient, they let it pass. They didn’t like the Van Jones story, so they ignored it. The network news media liked the financial entity known as Fannie Mae, so they ignored that scandalous organization for years. ACORN is getting the same treatment.

Saturday’s Post-Dispatch also reported on the besieged group in a story headlined “Census Bureau cuts ACORN ties. Negative publicity, GOP concerns jeopardized 2010 head count.”

Mr. Parker, Mr. Taylor writes for the AP, not the Washington Post.

Mr. Taylor’s AP coverage on any issue related to anything remotely able to be negative about anything to do with anyone or any organization involved with or actually related to or alleged by Faux News to be ralated to the Democratic Party is nearly alwqays printed by the PD. Despite frequent criticisms, and examples of Mr. Taylor’s anti-Democratic bias, which I have shown to the Post, his drivel still is spewed for from the pages of the PD as somehow “unbiased.”

I think Mr. Taylor is on the under-the-table-take from Rupert Murdoch and the Fox Network in how Taylor never misses a stab at the Democrats or the President.

Mr. Hogan,
Thanks for pointing out the error. I’ve corrected it in the blog text.

I am still scratching my head over the lack of moral decency of the ACORN workers caught on that video. I was certainly hoping that they were acting and playing alone with these actors and there would be proof that they called the police to report these two people. Oh, well, that was expecting way too much hope, I guess. Just unbelievable!

Makes you wonder doesn’t it Dwalk. Makes you wonder if they will break laws to help a guy set up a brothel complete with underage girls from El Salvador, what other kind of shenanigans might they be willing to advise people?

Stop and think about it Walk and you might just see what a fool the American people have become. ACORN gets MILLIONs in taxpayer money to peddle their filth. Disgusting POS.

This is an organization that is either purposefully irresponsible or completely out of control. It needs to be shut down. It is sick what they were willing to do, and to think they give this advice every day. Perhaps it isn’t just the greedy CEO’s and politicians that are doing all the cheating.

These two young folks should be proud of their work. It was a brave task to undertake and they exposed a corrupt organization for what it was.

Go Mo,

–Thanks, nice catch.

–Yes, it is disgusting. I too experience the same vitriol when other blacks find out I am conservative. They are usually hesitant to get nasty with me though, as my stature is an impedance. Dirty looks, wondered astonishment, and the under-the-breath mutterings are prevalent.

–When you consider the source, usually uneducated and dogmatic folks who have been poorly equipped to deal with anything different than what they’ve known, it is understandable, if not acceptable. The ironic thing, a group of people is overwhelmingly assigned to a specific ideology and don’t understand the exploitation involved.

–You have hit on an under-reported and extraordinary problem in our society. One that goes hand-in-hand with the problem of violence and gangs-related activity in the black community. A certain sectarianism has developed where the standards are different from the rest of society,
Where “if you are not with us, you are agin” us” prevails. Until the community can come to the realization they are part of a greater understanding, and seclude the subversive elements of their society, no progress can be made.

–Democrats have learned to nurture and exploit this division in ways that is self-defeating and dangerous, both to the exploited, and the society as a whole.

–Thanks again for bringing this story to all our attention. Maybe it will open some eyes that have until now, remain closed.

Good thing I wasn’t drinking coffee when I read the Politico headline about Team Obama trying to run away from ACORN:

“W.H. distances from activist group”

Choking…Up…With…Laughter.

Barack Obama can no more disown ACORN than he could disown his own shadow.

He IS ACORN. And ACORN is him. The “accountability” that White House flack Robert Gibbs says they take “extremely seriously” doesn’t extend to Team Obama itself — and the accountability they have evaded for pouring more than $800,000 into an ACORN front group for campaign advance work that was mysteriously re-classified as “get-out-the-vote” work.

As for the ACORN “advisory committee” that will “audit” the group’s illicit activities, I repeat:

Choking…Up…With…Laughter.

SEIU is ACORN. ACORN is SEIU.

–Where is the P.D. “investigative” team on the hushed NY Times piece involving e-mails detailing the $800,000 Obama donation to ACORN affiliated entities? The e-mails detailing the worry ACORN rep Leslie Bloom
had concerning their loss of tax-exempt status if the story leaked? The fact that they’ve been sitting on this information since July?

–C’mon P.D., show us your “beholding to no party” ethos.
