Fox News was the runaway choice of election night viewers
Fox News was the clear choice of election night viewers, nearly doubling its normal prime-time audience, according to Nielsen ratings.
The Los Angeles Times reports on its Top of the Ticket politics blog:
If you followed the suspense of Tuesday’s elections, odds are you landed on Fox News.
Fox News Channel absolutely crushed the other networks in prime-time election coverage ratings.
Despite — or perhaps thanks to — being on the Obama White House enemies list recently.
Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. (8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time), Fox News grabbed 4.04 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The other outlets weren’t even close.
MSNBC had 974,000 viewers. The CNN-owned HLN (previously CNN2 or CNN Headline News) had 842,000, and CNN trailed with 826,000.
Top of the Ticket concludes that:
The divide between Fox News and MSNBC somewhat underscores the big win for Republicans in New Jersey and Virginia, though not the loss of a conservative congressional candidate in New York. The big numbers for Fox News, often considered a right-leaning network, demonstrates that conservatives nationwide may have kept a close eye on the East Coast competitions.

Obama won in the most recent elections!
NJ was a loss by a mediocre Democratic candidate who after being behind by 30 points made it close with President Obama’s late help.
Virginia was a race by a lackluster Democratic gubernatorial candidate who ran against Obama and a far right wing sexist homophobe Republican who dressed himself in Obama’s clothes and won in a landslide in a state where Obama still has a majority of voter approval.
NY was a disaster for the far right wing fascist racist corporatist neocon GOP becasue the Tea Baggers, Rush, Hannity, Palin and their ilk lost to an Obama Democratic candidate in a district which hadn’t elected a Democratic member since 1856!
In California’s 10th an Obama Democrat won handily.
The GOP can yap all it wants but, the elections in 2010 will be better for the Democratic party than 2008!
Hmmm. Obviously you are not informed nor do you read. The 23rd district in NY is historically a very moderate republican base. The republican running against the democrat was more liberal than he was. What should be shaking the established parties toes is the fact the conservative individual running captured 44 percent of the vote.
As far as kalifornia is concerned, who cares? Waxman, Pelosi and the rest of the socialists are going to continue to tell us was to do.
The mediocre candidate you speak of is a friend of Barry. He believes in the big government spending and taxing. Deeds was of the same ilk. Whether you like it or not, this was NOT a BHO victory, but hopefully a wake up call that the big government, high taxes way of our elected congress, senate and white house is going to cost them their jobs.
Time to throw them all out.
“Democratic candidate in a district which hadn’t elected a Democratic member since 1856!”
Tim,
Nice talking points. I thought you LIBs were the free thinkers and oh so intelligent? If you were then you would have done your research and found that Democrat Michael R. McNulty represented NY-23 from 1989-1993.
I did not even know there was an election Tuesday, therefore I was not in very much suspense.
“far right wing sexist homophobe Republican” ~Tim Hogan
Are there NO standards the P-D moderator holds?
Blogroller - you must be new at this PD blogging thing. There are only filters for conservatives. Hogan more than any other blogger on this site has been given a free pass by the PD to say all the hateful disgusting things he wants. I would have been banned ages ago if I said those things about Democrats and especially Mr. Obama. That is the way the liberal journalism world works and conservatives must follow the guidelines.
My comment is that FOX was watched because people know that they will get unbiased, unfiltered honest coverage unlike any CNN or NBC station.
Hey bloggy, the GOP guy is far right wing, (sexist!)wrote his Master’s thesis criticizing working mothers and women with careers, and said that “no homosexual was qualified to be judge in VA because their lifestyle violate[sic]d VA morality statutes” (homophobic!-not to mention the USSC invalidated state consensual anti-sodomy laws years ago)!
You yappers just don’t get it, you lost! You will lose worse in 2010 and 2012!
Tim Hogan,
Thanks for sharing your overconfidence about ‘10 and ‘12 elections.
It’ll make it easier for us to tell Democrats as the door hits their ass out of office, “2bad4u.”
of course Fox won the ratings for these races…they are salivating at the thought of re-gaining control of Congress….reminds me of that look that Sarah Palin had in her eyes at the RNC–like a vampire who has tasted blood for the first time or in her case, a soulless media whore who has witnessed the sheeple devotion and their undying love for her wing-nut ideology.
She and Michelle Bachmann are Bride of Lucifer clones.
