‘Rock Band’ coming to Wii in June
Yes, it took long enough, but the hugely popular virtual music game “Rock Band” finally will make the leap to Nintendo’s Wii this summer, developer Harmonix Music Systems has announced.
If you haven’t heard — and Game Guy guesses the list of uninformed amounts to just six or seven people — “Rock Band” lets up to four players perform in virtual bands using peripherals resembling musical instruments: lead and base guitar, drum set and microphone. The title debuted for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November, and on PlayStation 2 in December.
Harmonix plans the Wii release for June 22. The game will sell for $170.
As for the music library, Harmonix says RB for Wii contains the same basic 63-song set as that for other platforms, plus five bonus tracks culled from expansion packs available on the other systems. Unfortunately, Wii gamers won’t have access to the new music store just added for RB online.
There’s another Wii-related bummer, too: This console version won’t offer online play. No word came from Harmonix whether it would add either feature soon.
Harmonix claims to have sold more than six million downloadable tunes in just a couple of months for GB on PS3 and Xbox 360.
