Konami suspends Metal Gear Online beta, pushes back start date

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Citing too much demand and too little performance, game developer Konami has discontinued the public testing for its Metal Gear Online in Europe and North America, and has moved back the start time to an undetermined date in the near future.

An announcement with details on the beta’s restart is expected Tuesday.

MGO, based on the upcoming “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” stealth action game, debuted last Wednesday, but public interest overwhelmed Konami’s servers and the company could not immediately make adjustments to meet demand, according to a statement on the MGO website.

“We have been unable to run the service to the level we expected,” Konami said in the statement. “As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the start of the U.S. public beta test until we are able to stabilize our server.”

The current beta will close out completely May 11 to make way for the next one.
