Mortal Kombat, DC Comics in major showdown
David Sheets
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel will move into a new neighborhood. Rivals Sub-Zero and Scorpion are not amused.

Mortal Kombat will mix it up with DC Comics in a cross-over proposed by developer Midway Games for later this year, according to a company announcement Friday. Expect it to debut on Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sometime this fall.

Beyond all this, details are sketchy. Some strange event is planned to bring the opposing universes together. And there’s talk of a “freefall” mode, where characters grapple while tumbling from some great height.

One knock against it, though: Supposedly, no fatalities will be permitted, which in Game Guy’s view kind of defeats the purpose of pitting MK against DC in the first place. Having super heroes and super baddies battle only until their deodorant gives out sounds rather unsatisfying.

But, hey, it’s still very early and Midway may find an interesting way to make something out of a “clean” fight.
