The best games played on Xbox 360
In surfing around the Web this weekend, Game Guy found this list constituting one gamer’s choice of best titles to play on Xbox 360 (One of many “best of on Xbox” lists out there, it turns out). Take a look and see if you agree with his assessment.
Game Guy is down with the “BioShock” mention, but he’s indifferent to the other titles — especially “Madden NFL 08,” which has slumped the last couple of years, and “Halo 3,” easily the most overrated game on the market (next to “Grand Theft Auto IV”).
The developer market’s reliance on sequels suggests it’s placing way too much emphasis on proven concepts and not enough on innovation. That tends to make even decent franchises such as “Madden” rather boring after awhile.
Of course, you probably have a different opinion on this. So let’s hear it. Tell Game Guy what you think are the best titles for Xbox 360.

BIOSHOCK,MASS EFFECT,GOW,HALO 3,GTA 4,COD2,3&4,AND BULLY.STILL SOME GREAT GAMES TO COME THIS YEAR AND NEXT. ONLY GAME I’M SORRY I WON’T GET TO PLAY AT MY PLACE)IS MSG4.I JUST HOPE A GOOD RUGBY GAME COMES SOON.
2007 was an AWESOME year for the 360, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Halo 3 (overated yes, but still good as hell) Call of Duty 4, Lost Odyessy (for the JRPG fans), and lets not forget a little game called Portal. 2008, while not the knockout punch as last year, still offers up some heavey hitters for the box, GTA4 (not so overrated) Gears of War 2, Halo Wars, Fable 2, Saints Row 2. No doubt in my mind… the best games on the box.
Crackdown (IMO a great game that needs more playtime), Gears of War, NBA 2k8, Halo 3 ( may be a lilltle overated but still great, for multiplayer alone ) demo of Ricky Ponting cricket but not the full game (no licensing),
Wow. What an original list. Pfft! Really…it looks like he took the best selling games for the system and listed them in order of sales (not quite accurate, but close enough).
Madden has sucked since at least 2003. I don’t understand why I have to put the Konami 30 lives code every time I want to pass the ball. All of the sports games are getting overly complicated. I had Madden 99 and that game was good.
Bioshock and Assassin’s Creed are about the only worthy titles on the list. Halo 3 was short and it didn’t introduce anything new.
I am looking forward to Fable 2. Overlord wasn’t too bad. Lego Star Wars is one of my favorite games. I’m now working on Lego Indy. Ghostbusters and Star Wars: The Force Unleased are going to be awesome, too.
Just wondering. What are the best games that aren’t violent? Any thoughts?
tiger woods 2008! it was no tiger woods 2005, but it was a fun game to play.
if you consider “madden” violent then you shouldn’t on an xbox. or a TV. or read newspapers.
halo1 was overrated, but halo3 was a pretty entertaining game. mostly for the multiplayer. shooting those little furbies in the single player mission wasn’t all too satisfying…
Ugh, I can’t even read that guy’s commentary, it’s just not well thought out at all. The review text just screams “14 year old kid” to me.
For example, he says that the fact that Orange Box consists of 4 games “handicaps it a little bit”. Yeah, it would have been a much better value if you had to buy the 4 games individually… huh? Also he makes no mention at all of Portal, which was almost universally hailed as brilliant. (Full disclosure: I have OB on PC, not 360.)
Rock Band is the most obvious omission, to me. It’s mostly useless as a single-player game but the amount of fun gained rocking out in party fashion with your friends is off the charts.
GTA4 overrated? Not by a long shot. I played Halo 3 for a total of 15 minutes, but I spent 50+ hours with GTA4. GTA4 is still the best game of ‘08 and the sales prove my point. Personally, I found Bioshock to be overrated. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was a great coop/multiplayer game. What about Mass Effect? Mass Effect has the best sci-fi story line in years! Bioshock was terrible–too dark and confusing. Halo 3? Just as bad but more horrible in a kindergarten way. Madden? Are you serious? Maybe 8 years ago. Friend, you need someone to show you how to game or something. My guess is you need to play a wider variety of games to compare against.
David Sheets lives for putting down Microsoft products as thoroughly as possible while still (barely) trying to maintain the illusion of journalism. Unless you’re an Apple/Nintendo/Linux fanboy who rejoices in these types of anti-Microsoft reviewers, it’s really not worth it to read anything he writes. It’s too bad that he’s the technology voice for the Post and most non-techie St. Louisians have to read his completely biased opinions and not realize he has an agenda.
GTA4 and Halo 3 are not at all overrated. I’ve got dozens of hours of gameplay from GTA4 (which I’m still playing) and hundreds of hours out of Halo 3 multiplayer. Bang for the buck, you can’t beat that kind of entertainment.
