E3: Told you so
The crew at Game Guy HQ was not impressed with the potential for E3 delivering on big news or new insights this year — and was roundly criticized as a consequence.
Turns out we weren’t the only ones who were underwhelmed. One analyst called the conference boring and “virtually useless” before the curtain went up. Another called it “stupid.” And the journal GameDaily reports that big players in the gaming world such as Electronic Arts and Ubisoft dislike the way E3 was organized.
E3 was once a big deal — in more ways that one. The organizers scaled it down so vendors didn’t have to compete with noisy neighbors and overwhelming crowds. Now, E3 appears to be the victim of its own regress.
“There’s always next year,” as Chicago Cubs fans are used to saying. But another disappointment like this one in 2010 may make next year the last one for E3.
