Bejeweled iconRomance comes in many forms. But not often do you find it this way: A New Jersey programmer made it turn up for his girlfriend in a video game.

They later exchanged vows as a result.

Bernie Peng wanted to propose to Tammy Li. He also wanted to do it creatively and in a way that was particularly special to Li, according to the Associated Press on Saturday. She loved the game “Bejeweled,” the popular game requiring players to form horizontal and vertical chains of gems, and that gave him an idea.

After a little tweaking of the game, he managed to incorporate the image of a wedding ring and a marriage proposal so that they would pop up on screen when Li reached a certain score.

Peng apparently scored, too. The couple wed Saturday. “Bejeweled” maker PopCap Games says the ceremony included a game-console-shaped cake and copies of the game as wedding favors.

Wonder what would have happened if Li had loved “Mortal Kombat”?
