There has been a strange rumor floating around that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game console might undergo a name change.

Fuzzy photography of a suspicious document claimed to be evidence that the console will become “Xbox Pure” in the near future — or distant future, for all anyone knew. The rumor later was disproven, but not before one of the gaming news sites sank its teeth into the possibility.

Game Guy can see why this sort of story gained traction. When you’ve got a device with the kind of maintenance history Xbox 360 has, who wouldn’t want to change its identity?
