Anyone still not sure whether to dip their toe into “Final Fantasy XI Online” has 14 days to make up their mind, without charge.

Right now, publisher Square Enix is offering a two-week free trial of the MMORPG’s PC edition, downloadable from the “Final Fantasy” website. All anyone needs to get it is a valid e-mail address and age verification at the site. “Final Fantasy XI Online” is rated “T” for Teen.

Armed with that, site visitors should click on the “Free Trial” link to obtain a registration code and a copy of the software. Users have 90 days after the trial period expires to purchase the game and keep the character profiles they created during gameplay.

So, in effect, the trial lasts a little longer than 14 days.

“Final Fantasy XI Online” puts players in the world of Vana’diel — where fighting, black magic and reincarnation are commonplace. Since its debut in 2002, there have been four expansion packs: “Rise of the Zilart,” “Chains of Promathia,” “Treasures of Aht Urhgan,” and “Wings of the Goddess.”
