Sneak peek at New Xbox Experience: kinda looks Wii-esque, iTunes-ish
David Sheets
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The new interface for Microsoft’s Xbox Live debuts Nov. 19, and it looks like PC World magazine’s request for inspection was processed before Game Guy’s.

Nonetheless, he won’t hold a grudge, so ease on over to PC World for a peek. Notable in the revamped look are the absence of colored layers for each channel sliding horizontally across the screen, as well as the disappearance of the word “Live.” In fact, the entire name has changed, to “New Xbox Experience.”

Looks like “Live” then will be dead. But “New” won’t work either once the new look turns old.

Then there’s the matter of the dancing avatars, reminding Game Guy of Miis on Nintendo’s Wii. Microsoft’s avatars are better designed, but still, they appear to be better representations of someone else’s idea.

Add to that the “rolodex” display of channels, movies and games somewhat like the fast-fetch feature on Apple’s iTunes store, and it seems the word “New” on this Xbox experience is a bit overstated.
