When superheroes and souped-up ninjas mix it up, the action is bound to paint quite a picture.

For those who can’t imagine that though, comic book artist Alex Ross has hand painted it for you.

The result appears on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 box covers for the “kollector’s” edition of Midway Games’ “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe,” set for release next month and displayed here.

In the game, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and their Kombat cohorts scrum with DC stars Batman, Superman and others in multi-tiered environments in team or solo play. This year, the single-player mode includes an intertwined story line and dual perspectives.

Also this year, each box contains a 16-page comic book detailing the events leading up to the in-game story mode, as well as a Ross-designed-and-painted wall print.

So now, there’s almost as much art going on outside the game as in it.
