‘Spore’ expansion pack due out next month
“Spore,” the massively popular single-player god game, just keeps getting bigger, literally as well as figuratively.
Game publisher Electronic Arts plans to release an expansion called the “Creepy & Cute Parts Pack,” containing about 100 parts that can be added to whatever you’re building in both the game and the “Creature Creator” editing software. The expansion is due out Nov. 18.
Another expansion due out next spring but not yet officially named lets players add features to space-traveling creatures and develop special missions to other worlds and galaxies. Unlike the first expansion, this one seems to add functionality to the game itself.
“Spore” just debuted a little over a month ago, so it may seem odd for a $20 upgrade to arrive as soon as November. But “Spore,” a PC-only game to date, encountered digital rights and technical issues shortly after launch; maybe a bigger game poured all at once into computers might have caused more trouble.
A version of “Spore” for Nintendo’s Wii console is in the works. It’s not known for certain whether one for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will appear at the same time.
