GotGame introduces in-game Web browser

The gaming social portal GotGame seems to have an answer to the question: What to do with all that time spent waiting for action in a boring PC game?

This week, GotGame has announced a new tool called Rogue — a Web browser that integrates into most games as they’re playing. With it, gamers can check their e-mail, Twitter with friends, sift videos at YouTube or just surf the Web while running the game in the background.

Built with Adobe AIR, Rogue floats above the action and turns opaque so gamers don’t miss anything important, but it can cause hesitation and, in some instances, system crashes as the game and browser battle for control of the computer memory. (Flash-based video on Rogue, rumor has it, can be particularly nettlesome.)

But, hey, every great idea has its rough moments, right?

Thanks, David. Okay first a little background. I’m an avid WoW player, who lives in St. Louis. I have a mid-level rig and play WoW and Warhammer. I just happened to come across this post this morning. I can not tell you how cool this application is. If you play WoW this is a must have. All the time you spend grinding, you know the we call them bathroom breaks, is so much more interesting. I watched an entire episode of Entourage while doing monotonous tasks in game!!! I never thought I needed this until I used it. The coolest feature to me is the adjustable transparency. Not sure I agree with your take on the crashing due to Flash video. In fact, I checked albinoblacksheep.com and the flash worked just fine. Thanks again, David. I can’t tell you how much you improved life.
