Has the New Xbox Experience ‘bricked’ your Xbox 360?
OK, the launch day “crisis” with the New Xbox Experience seems to be dying down. Issues with Netflix streaming appear resolved, and the live Marketplace is working better today than Wednesday. I’ve heard the Web storefront still has bugs, though.
Chalk all this up to first-day quirkiness. A dashboard upgrade of this magnitude, affecting about 14 million people worldwide all at once, is bound to have a few rough edges the first week anyway.
But what I wonder is whether NXE actually triggered the “red ring of death” on anyone and bricked their Xbox 360 consoles. Reports of a few modded consoles crashing have landed in our e-mail; however, nobody I know with a factory-direct machine has complained.
Drop us a line here at Game Guy if you’re one of the exceptions. Give us details — tell us what happened and when. And if the comments box remains quiet, I’ll gather then that NXE wasn’t as scary as even Game Guy supposed.

Turned on XBOX Live, downloaded NXE. All was fine for about 3 minutes, during which I started to build an avatar. Then - darkness - followed by the red rings of death. Factory-direct machine with absolutely no problems ever before this…
Guess I’m headed to Costco now…
I actually had the red ring a few days before the new Xbox experience was released so im on a brand new xbox now thanks to me swapping my old one out at Best Buy
No hasn’t giving me “the dreaded red rings” scares me even saying it. Anyway anyone play COD5 multiplayer? Would love a review. Heard its basically the same (compared to COD4), but WWII style. Anything comments on it would help, thanks guys.
Our unmodded 360 got bricked about 2 days after the NXE install. It’s the hardware failure message, so I suppose it could just be a coincidence. But it’s ran without a problem for the past year, so I’ll have to go and send it to Microsoft for repair.
I wish I could report this was the issue. But on Monday I sent my XBOX in for the 3rd time in 2008. I can’t get away from the Red Rings of Death. I only hope it doesn’t crash again when I get it back and update it. How can I love such a horrible device?
Hey,
I’ve had my Xbox 360 Elite since Sept 07, and never had a problem. I downloaded the new NXE like everyone else, and then two days later…BAM. Red rings. My XBox isn’t modded or anything. Not sure if its coincidence or what.
I have had my XBOX 360 PRO for four years with no problems, which is past the warantee for the red rings, and after a couple of days after the NXE of mostly streaming Netflix movies and some pretty light Gears 2 playing, it bricked. It’s either $94 to fix or just get a new one, but no matter what, I’m hooked, and I need something soon. I only have a PS3 (just for Blu-Ray) with one game to get me through this rough patch.
Immediately following the NXE update our Xbox quit reading discs as have many others. Of courese, Microsoft wants $99 to fix it since it is out of warranty. I believe it is a software issue, not hardware.
