Sony introduces the PlayStation credit card — but watch out
Looking for a little holiday gaming cheer? Sony might have something for you that Santa doesn’t.
It’s called a credit card.
Right now, the company is offering a PlayStation Visa card, which you can apply for at Sony’s site. Receive approval and you’ll also receive $150 credit toward the purchase of a PlayStation 3 console, or just wait until after receiving the card and use the discount at any PS3 retailer. This offer ends Dec. 31.
Of course, this isn’t the only reason Sony wants you to have this card. There’s a buy-one-get-one-free deal on Blu-ray discs attached, and every purchase with the card earns points toward discounts on other Sony products.
Kind of a funny way to encourage brand loyalty by offering a credit card during a national economic crisis. Still, $150 off the price of a PS3 is a pretty good deal. At the least, you could take advantage of the discount, then cut up the card when it arrives in the mail. Given these uncertain economic times, that’s the smart thing to do.
