Top titles on Linux: One gamer’s view
Sure, you’ve heard of Linux. But how many of you out there play games on it?
In truth, Game Guy doesn’t do it often. I tinker with the open-source platform as a productivity tool, but the stacks of console-, PC- and Mac-based games sitting astride my desk keep my attention focused elsewhere.
Add to that, nobody has been sending me Linux-based games to try. Maybe publishers who specialize in such titles believe that doing so amounts to throwing good games in the trash; only devoted Linux users, they probably think, constitute the audience worthy of their attention.
Neverthless, I keep an open door — and an open mind — to Linux games, hoping to play more of them if publishers are similarly inclined to open-mindedness. In the meantime, Arthur M over at zMogo has cobbled together a list of the five games he says really rock with the penguin, including one that appears to be a throwback knock-off of Super Mario Bros.
But if you’re a Linux lover with a different opinion, please don’t hesitate to offer it up in this space. The more we all know, the more we’ll grow the audience for gaming on this underappreciated platform.
