iPhone: 6,000 games, but how many are good?
Silly Game Guy.
When he bought the iPhone, the purchase was essential: His last phone died after a long fall from a short dock. So, the first priority after watching his lifeline disappear in a stream of bubbles was re-establishing a dial tone.
Since then though, Game Guy hardly ever makes a call; he’s too busy trying the numerous game applications downloadable straight to the phone or through Apple’s iTunes store.
There are racing games and shooting games, trivia games and puzzle games. Some apps even test one’s creativity with, uh, farts — as if humanity was clambering for better flatuence.
In fact, there are an estimated 6,000 games out of a total 27,000-plus free and pay applications available, according metrics measurements by the site MobClix.com, which posts analytics on mobile-phone tools and usage.
Those measurements show games outnumbers iPhone’s next most popular applicatons category, entertainment, by almost 2-to-1.
How many has Game Guy tried? Let’s just say that he’ll be busy for a while if he never sets his phone down again.
Unfortunately, quantity does not mean quality; anyone with an idea and a dream it seems can post up an iPhone app — the fart games being the most famous examples.
The principal attraction to these games seems to be novelty, because no other phone offers the kind of interaction iPhone provides. In time though, the novelty will fade and the better applications will rise through that 6,000 — and probably thousands more soon — and remain attractive to the majority of mobile gamers.
So, now, tell us, which iPhone games are good? Bad? And which have potential?
There’s no bad call here. Unless you drop your phone in a lake.

I enjoy playing Tap Tap Revenge2, Light Bike, Sniper Lite, Word Wrap and Bowl Lite. These are all free applications, but they make me want to play on my iphone all day. I’m sure if I was to buy an application, I’ll call in sick to work just so I can stay home and play. LOL
I have 8 pages of apps. Some useful, most silly. i’m addicted to iMob, but I also like Days of Thunder, HoopsLite, Wordwarp and LED Football. On the non-game side, Shazam and Pandora are necessary. I need a 12-step program!!
Fieldrunners is amazing. Crash Bandicoot, Days of Thunder and SlotZ are fun racing games.
I like a puzzle game called Slide It. It’s addictive.
