You’ve got a high-powered rifle, an itchy trigger finger, and the President of the United States needs your help. What do you do?

First thing, go to Apple’s iTunes App Store and download the new “Silent Scope” game for iPhone and iPod touch.

Game publisher Konami just released the portable update to the 10-year-old arcade title for on-the-go gamers who manage to find time in a busy day to test their marksmanship while trying to rescue the president and his family from terrorists.

In this tap-to-shoot version, gamers can choose between arcade and training modes. In arcade mode, there are three stages — a storyline, a shooting range and a timed attack — with each stage having its own difficulty setting.

Ironically, the iTunes game follows the same basic plot as the original: terrorists abduct the First Family in Chicago. Now that the current First Family hails from there, some gamers may think that’s a somewhat chilling touchstone with reality.

“Silent Scope” for iPhone and iPod touch sells for $5.99.
