‘Spore’ hits 100 million creations
Talk about crowded! The massively single-player metaverse known as “Spore” today welcome its 100 millionth creation since launching the “Creature Creator” last June.
That’s not 100 million different improvised critters; developer Maxis and publisher Electronic Arts are counting all the ears, noses, mouths and weirdly effective legs appearing as separate items in the “Sporepedia” at www.spore.com, too. The whole species themselves add up to just over 31 million — or almost 20 times more than the known species on Earth, according to EA.
We’re not sure what the 100 millionth creation was — an eye, arm or torso — but the milestone has provided a good opportunity for Maxis and EA to remind folks there’s more “Spore” coming: the “Spore Galactic Adventures” expansion pack for Mac and PC on June 23; “Spore Hero” for Wii and “Spore Hero Arena” for Nintendo DS this fall.
At this rate of creation — an average of 300,000 new items daily — expect “Spore” to hit the 200 million mark around Christmas.
