No doubt, a video game is on your teen’s or tween’s Christmas wish list, and that game probably is “Guitar Hero 5″ or “Wii Sports Resort.”

So says a survey of 1,005 consumers ages 8 to 17 directed by retailer Game Crazy and conducted by Weekly Reader, an educational magazine written for children.

The survey makers divided their responses between boys and girls, age and interests, and across all categories the “GH5″ sequel produced by Neversoft and the “Wii Sports Resort” follow-up to Nintendo’s popular “Wii Sports” title were at or near the top of the wish lists.

More than half the survey participants among both boys and girls want to see one or both games under their Christmas trees, Game Crazy said in a news release Monday. Following a close second are “New Super Mario Bros.” and “Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.” Both titles were developed for Nintendo’s Wii and DS handheld consoles.

“New Super Mario Bros.” for Wii is scheduled for release next month.

It goes almost without saying that because three of the four most-wanted titles are Nintendo titles, the Wii and DS platforms are the most popular in the survey. Of the two, however, the DS upgrade known as DSi is considered a must-have, respondents said. The device is wi-fi enabled and has two built-in digital cameras that can be used separately or incorporated into gameplay.

Game Crazy’s survey was conducted online between Aug. 20 and Sept. 2 among members of a special Weekly Reader research group, Game Crazy said. The gaming chain is owned by Movie Gallery Inc., which also administers the Hollywood Video brand.
