PlayStation Home receives major update today
It’s called Version 1.3, but don’t let the mid-range number fool you — today’s PlayStation Home update has been marketed as a major improvement to the PlayStation Network’s avatar-populated hangout.
Since its public debut in December, Home has housed mainly public and developer spaces for the customizable avatars to meet each other and play mini-games or see special events, and not much else. (Though the machinima generator produces loads of fun.) Idle mingling has been Home’s main attraction.
Maybe that will change today. The new and improved Home has a product preview feature for shoppers — the better to see how clothes will look on avatars and furniture in private spaces, for example — and a selection of “consumables,” or limited-use items, to give avatars something to do with their hands other than make vague gestures. These two additions ought to make Home feel more … well, homey.
But the marquee addition is universal game launching, allowing PlayStation 3 owners to spin one of their favorites discs without leaving the comforts of Home. Not all titles support this feature at the moment, but those that do (”Resistance 2″ and “Far Cry 2″ are said to be a couple of them) will show up as icons hovering over each avatar that other avatars can see — the better for Home residents to make multiplayer matchups.
Players can add to their icon swarm simply by slipping a disc into the Blu-ray drive, or by purchasing games at the PlayStation Store. (It’s hoped however that this doesn’t make everyone look like their heads are bobbing through a cloud of insects.)
So, take a look at Home today and tell Game Guy what you think. Are the improvements worth having? Do they make your overall Home experience better? If not, why not?
And, of course, Game Guy is always interested in hearing what other things you think will make Home a sweeter place.

That all seems great but since the update i cant sign in
I cant log on either. Bummer
Major update is causing major problems. Nobody can log in.
i cant log in either… glad to know others are having the same problem, and its not just me. it freezes the whole system at “initializing.”
It stole my dizzee rascal trousers!!
I paid REAL money for those and they weren’t cheap being that they were for an avatar!
I can’t redownload them without paying again but it seems at least I am one person that can still log in in the first place
The problem that some people are having with starting Home can be easily dealt with. Just highlight the Home icon and tap the triangle button. Then hit Delete. Yes, Delete. Once the operation is completed, reinstall Home by tapping the X button over the icon.
After Home has bee reinstalled and started, you should be able to go on Home as you always have. Home should be working juts fine.
If anyone has questions about Home, or Home related problems, I invite you to the official PlayStation Home Forum (General). There are many answers to be found to your questions. And if you have questions while in Home, you can always contact one of Home’s Home Community Volunteers (Guides) who are very willing to help you with any problems that may arise. You can contact a Guide through the Pravate Messaging system of the forum or by your PS3’s XMB.
Welcome to Home. Be seeing you. Ciao!
I forgot to mention that once you have reinstalled Home, all of your settings nad items will still be as you had left them. Have a great weekend!
I’m betting that these problems have something to do with the 360. I can’t imagine holy Sony making a mistake. Must be a MS spy inside Sony somewhere.
