Video games are hurting auto sales, newspaper reports
Video games have been heaped with a wicked reputation — they’re the source of all our ills, according to “experts.”
Now, gaming is at fault for something else: a drop in automobile sales.
So says Kotaku, the game blog that cites a Japanese newspaper editorial claiming video game sales are hurting car sales in that country. According to the editorial, the reason is that young men now spend their hard-earned dollars (or yen, in this case) on titles that merely depict tight rides, instead of saving them to buy the real thing.
The editorial reportedly cites an executive from Toyota as its chief source — the same car company, as Kotaku points out, that gives gamers a peek at its FT-86 concept car in “Gran Turismo 5.”
However, you can’t drive “GT5″ to the grocery store.
