We’re asking your opinion of PSP Go and mini games

A week has passed since Sony unveiled its PSP Go portable gaming player and reaction to it in the marketplace has been difficult to find.

Retailers are telling Game Guy the devices sold briskly the first week, but so far they haven’t heard much feedback from consumers. Or any feedback, in some instances.

“Has anyone said anything to you?” the manager of one South St. Louis retailer asked Game Guy, on condition of anonymity. “Because I’m getting nothing, and by now I usually hear a lot from people about new hardware.”

Feedback was plentiful soon after PlayStation Portable debuted in spring 2005, and again when the console’s Slim & Lite version appeared in September 2007. Lately, Sony’s newest PlayStation 3, marketed as just “PS3,” is garnering a positive response.

But PSP Go …

“Nada,” said another game store employee, out in the western ‘burbs. “Haven’t heard a thing, good or bad. Kinda strange for something that just came out.”

Maybe there will be noise following Sony’s announcement that the PSP “mini” games made with Go in mind are priced between $4.99 and $9.99 — higher than a number of titles designed for smart phones.

Or maybe there will be noise later this fall when holiday shopping steps up and people feel more comfortable breaking open their wallets than they did last Christmas.

For now though, the attention that first followed Go has sort of stopped — or so it seems. Thus, Game Guy asks anyone who bought a PSP Go and has gotten some use out of it what they think. Do you prefer it to the PlayStation Portable? And if you’ve tried the new PSP mini games, do you think they’re worth what Sony’s charging?

Well i bought the go the day it came out and i was very impressed. I love the new placement of the analog stick, it feels more natural then it was on the previous psp models. Every thing else is great i just wish that i could get more battery life out of it. And lastly, i think they should just get rid of the mini’s, because lets face it this is a device used MAINLY for gaming and the minis are not even worth the price you buy them for. I would rather buy 1 great psp full game then 10 minis.

I don’t own a PSP Go, but I do have a PSP Slim. I have no plans to purchase a PSP Go. It’s an utter letdown that I have no way of playing the UMD games I paid for on the new system. And as long as they are charging these unreasonable prices for digital distribution I want none of it.

I’ve never hacked my PSP but I might as well just so I can screw Sony they way they screwed me.
