Classic ‘Doom’ makes its way onto iPhone, iPod touch
Game Guy remembers when “Doom” was such a big piece of software to swallow it nearly choked and killed his Windows box.
Times sure have changed. Now, a version of the legendary shooter has been made available by id Software for iPhone and iPod touch via the iTunes App Store.
This one, called “Doom Classic,” plunks players down on Mars as space marines trying to deflect an attack on Earth by armies from Hell. The 36 missions are spread across four episodes: “Knee-Deep in the Dead,” “Shores of Hell,” “Inferno” and “Thy Flesh Consumed.” (A version of “Doom” made especially for iPhone and iPod touch called “Doom Resurrection” came out in June.)
“Doom Classic” has a customizable interface, three control types and offers either “deathmatch” competition or cooperative action for up to four players through a wireless Web connection. It’s selling now for $6.99 on iTunes.
