More bad news for Xbox owners
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Reliability issues have plagued Microsoft’s Xbox 360 since its release in 2005. Now, days before the console’s fourth birthday comes another blow to its reputation.
A reliability survey out of Great Britain says 60 percent of Microsoft’s consoles there have suffered the “red ring of death” — three of four lights around the power button illuminated red instead of green, symbolic of a fatal hardware failure. This based on interviews with more than 1,100 video game console owners, half of whom had Xboxes and a portion of which also had a Sony PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii.
The survey was conducted by the publication CNET UK.

Yawn, again. Been lucky with the red rings so far. If I get them though, guess what? I’ll go get another 360 before a PS3 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Must be nice to have others out there post these articles and do your job for you. Isn’t this the Holliday season? There should be plenty of games out there for you to review.
Why is this “Bad News” for Xbox owners? It only is bad news if you’re invested in the company’s stock, or if you base your own happiness on the success of a gaming console you had no part in developing. It’s only bad news when your Xbox fails, not if anyone else’s does.
I assume then this would be “good news” then for PS3 (or Wii) owners since they have a similar stake to those stated above? The only people that pull for the success (or failure) of a particular console (or fanboys as we like to call them) are those that are secretly unhappy with their choice of console.
David, you finally had your last article talking about RROD fall off the list, so I guess that means you felt a twitch in your left eye and it could only be cured by writing ANOTHER article the SAME subject that has been an OLD story since 2007. I’m going to conservatively–and unscientifically–estimate you have written over ten articles on the subject in the last 52 weeks.
I’m asking you, on behalf of all who happen to stumble across this blog, to put in a little more effort in your work. Find a new story that is interesting to read.
I’ll go get another PS3 before a 360 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Have to agree with Paul, how about some decent game reviews. This article is little more than a twitter post.
Hi Guy’s,

i’ve said it before but i’ll say it again… my xbox has experienced two red ring o’ death failures. each time microsoft supplied me with shipping materials, paid for shipping, and fixed my box for free. total cost to me: el zilcho. it can fail 17 more times on me, as long as microsoft is accepting the repair costs (which they are), i could really care less.
